Powerglide? Any experience?

Looks like i may be swapping to a glide for my current project and know NOTHING about them. Any tips, advice? What kind of power are you putting down? I'm making the move for strength, simplicity and a great buy on full set up (trans, converter, brake). What are your experiences?

Thanks!!!

Joels on Joy built me a stock gear/stock case glide for less than a grand if I remember right.

1.76 gear
Pro tree brake
Standard pan
300m input shaft

Tons of street abuse, 50+ passes, 25 nitrous passes

This was 3500lbs, 600hp na 800 HP on hose. Best trans I've ever had.

You can safely run stock 1.76 gear sets @ 750hp @ 2500 lbs. You can run them in higher hp applications, you just wont like it when they break. Beyond that they start to get expensive with aftermarket gear sets and stronger cases.
They have very good life, but kinda suck for street usage (not very fun to drive) . Good in big cu inch cars or engines that produce high torque. Check the rules if your racing in a class. Run a shield. You wont be disappointed.

Ridings built my glide its been goin on 2 years now works awesome. 1.80 straight cut gears in it. Gonna have him freshen it this winter since its out but I haven't even changed the trans fluid in it. Works great. Over 100 passes and its been 1.14 60ft.

We ran a stock 1.76 gear set with our sb nitrous car that made 1000 hp plus that had 300 plus runs on it. As soon as we switched to a turbo it lasted about 30 passes and when it broke it was ugly

Thanks for all the responses guys! Car will be around 3000 lbs with me in it and make maybe 500/500 NA. Spray may be in it's future. :) I have a line on a good used set-up now that will need a freshen-up. Not really gonna be a street car anymore but I'll still keep the plate on it.

I'm thinking I will start a build thread soon so you guys can follow along and see how it ends up.
