honestly, i googled it. found a CS3 tutorial, and went by that. i have no idea how to do it now. i messed around with it for a day or so, and now im over it.

Ok cool, i could see using it for certain shots but i truthfully wasnt sure it was possible without the lens...

Here you go. Oh btw that monster truck one is awesome and his other stuff is amazing!!

thanks!

You camera people and your tripods. I've been looking for a tripod for doing nothing real fancy. Criteria being smallest possible folded size witha reasonable max height. There are so many tripods out there though that it's damn near impossible to shop them online. I found a Manfrotto I really liked at Ritz camera though, cool ball head with quick release, 17" folded and it said 60" max height but I thought it seemed taller than that when I popped it up in the store. Found another one online that's another brand that goes 14" to 60" but I want to find one in a store local to check it out before picking anything up.

i have a ball head Slik brand thats nice for me, not the best out there but for the price was perfect (about $100). folds down small, ill try to find the model number

Cool, yeah, any guidance I can get is helpful because there are a few brands and they all have huge line ups so shopping is quite over whelming. Slik is one I have seen mentioned a lot in compact tripod things. The one I found with a folded size of 14 and a full size of 60 was a Velbon Ultra Maxi F. Was looking at about $100 for that on Amazon and a quick release plate for it was $10. The Manfrotto at Ritz was only $60 though. I found a store in Troy that appears to be a dealer for the Velbon so hoping to check that out after work.

if you're looking at this one, the manfrotto 785b modomaxi.

its very compact and small. i actually had one for a brief time. i did however, break it. the mounting piece for the quick release got a little stress crack in it. i was standing on a pier in the UP. my camera fell OFF the tripod, and was headed into the water. luckily, the strap had gone around the legs of the tripod, and it stopped about 4" from the ground. if the strap was hanging down the other side, it would have hit the cement, and bounced into the icy water. i was SOOOO pissed/relieved.

when i got home, i had it replaced under warranty, and then i sold it and bought the 488rc0.

i think its rated to hold something absurd, like 17 pounds. if you have a relatively compact camera, with a lightweigh lens, that little guy will prob do the trick. but i wouldnt use it in the COLD. its really small, and has alot of features. very nice for a point and shoot if you ask me. if you plan on doing HDR shots and other things were you need multiple exposures with ZERO movement, i'd look into something else..

i'd check out Gitzo, Slik, Bogen and Manfrotto. they all make very high quality stuff.

Lucky, thanks for the feedback. That's the exact one I was looking at. Definitely not looking into HDR, just something to hold a camera when everyone present is trying to be in the picture and stabilize a camera for my shaky hands. I presently don't have anything fancy for a camera which is why my criteria are what they are. Someday I plan to get something nicer and when I do I'll get a beefier tripod to hold it.

damn, i think im tapped out on detroit pics. i have TONS more than that. but most of them suck and were never edited. just chillin on my external HD.

I have a TON of pix from when we explored the train station and the Packard Plant, but I think these two are kind of cool...
