OK this was a bit pricey for what it is, but I've been looking for something like this since I got my iPhone. It's less of a purchase and more of a backing on Kickstarter, but for the pledge I will get one of these in return when they go into production (shipping in August)

Getting the silver anodized w/ upgraded glass (rendering shown above)...really looking forward to it...should be a nice upgrade from my Defender and IvySkin

I'd be worried about 2 things with that.

1. the iPhone already weighs a ton. That thing is going to make it weigh 2 tons. (can't find any data on the weight of the case, but it can't be light)
2. I'd be concerned with GPS signal. Metal cases are notorious for destroying gps signal. That thing is a metal box around the phone. I would be really concerned that it's going to interfere with gps signal.

Other than that, it looks cool and protective.

I was worried about that, too (well the signal, not the weight...I don't mind that part, as my phone is either in my car, on my desk, or in my pocket)...

I read this on their site, though, and watched the video. I know it's marketing and everything, but honestly...the fact that they A) acknowledged the potential issue and B) tested with it to see how it would affect the performance is pretty telling to me. Most manufacturers would just throw the product on the market and not worry about it...the fact that these guys are out testing that kind of thing says a lot to me.

A metal case the iPhone likes

Metal cases and the iPhone historically don't play well together. No one has successfully made a metal case that works well with antennas in the US. We knew making our bezels out of metal might work in Hong Kong and China where their wireless infrastructure is far stronger than the US. To our surprise, however, the metal housings are working without issue in Chicago and we plan to test them elsewhere during the project. Essentially, it works the same as if you were using the iPhone in your bare hand without a typical case. So if you are looking for something to disrupt the conversation even more, go for TAKTIK Aluminum.

So, it's good to see they addressed the problem, and tried to measure it in some quantifiable way. A half-bar shouldn't make too much of a difference for me, personally, as I spend most of my time in very good signal areas. I'm sure it wouldn't be good for some people, though, and is a very good point. I think the other cases they are making (the ones for $75, $100 with upgraded glass) are made from plastic. I just really liked the looks of the aluminum one.

Look into the LIFEPROOF cases for Iphone... My g/f and I have them and I love mine... It already took a dive in some water and falls... Nothing happened...

I actually researched those a lot beforehand...my future sister in law has one, too, and I just really don't like them that much. I can understand why people do...don't get me wrong, but the style and the protection just isn't what I'm looking for. I was really looking for more of the protection that an Otterbox Defender offers, but with better styling and more of a seal (to keep dust out, mostly...and the occasional moisture). Plus, I really like the "mechanical" look this case has as opposed to the sleek look of the lifeproof case (personal styling preference).

Thanks for the suggestion, though!
