Port Huron Float Down

ive done it. DO NOT take a large raft that sits high up out of the water. we had a big raft one year and it took us FOREVER to get to the finish, and we kept getting blown out to the shipping channel/Canadian side. ended up getting severely sunburned, even with a ton of sunscreen.

take water in your coolers too. everyone packs them full of beer, about hour 6 the only thing you want is a drink of water. lol.

best way to do it is individual rafts, and tie them all together, where you are down in the water. the current will take you that way, we were riding up on top of the water. no good.

also, its a long day. people have been getting off early in recent years and IMO that makes the trip better, there are a few places along the river that have big float down parties, getting off there is my suggestion. going all the way to Marysville is a trip! we all ended up swimming a long way the year we had the big raft, pulling it back in from the shipping channel every 20 minutes lol.

you will have fun though!

Good info..
Do you take 2 cars and park one at the finish and one at the beginning?

well its a bit different for me, because I live in port huron, so we always just have a friend come pick us up (long day of drinking on the water, don't want to drive) but yeah if you have a friend that isn't going to drink on the trip, you can park a car wherever you want to get out, and one at the start.

another great piece of advice. get there early. there is very little parking at the beach where it starts and the roads all surrounding that area will be a zoo. its worth it to get there early, get your raft down on the beach and get it inflated, get your coolers situated, get sunscreen on etc. plus you will have a place to park that way.

the middle is the best part chad! especially if its your first time. people watching at its finest!

Aids and piss surround you in the middle lol.

It's pretty fun, but wear good heavy sun block because if the winds not in right direction it's will be a 5-7hr float. It usually last 3-4 hrs. So bring water pop and a sandwich and If you can, you would be better to get dropped off at the beach as parking is nil there at the light house beach because it should be 2500 plus people this year. Oh and big island floats are fine just bring a few oars with you. Smaller tube floats tend to pop in the river if tied together as the waves tend to pull the handles apart and rip them off the tubes. We saw a lot of people have this happen to them and they had to get out with in the first 45 min of if..

im speaking from experience chad, the big floats are bad news. and we had a canoe paddle. I was on the front page of the paper under the bridge holding it! haha.

I'm thinking this is a go ... it looks like a blast!

Last year I rode the superjet under the bridge... that was a blast. Big ole boats throwing some nice wake to jump...

The website says if you're going to use a big raft like that, then to tie a bucket to it and the current will catch the bucket and keep you with the current and easier to steer

that's exactly right. we were going to do the bucket method, but it never ended up happening for whatever reason. but yes, the bucket will work. I would probably even use two.
