Pokemon zombies?

I'm with Tin. I was studying law and was set that I would make big bucks as a lawyer. I hated every minute of it. the instant though I started playing games I fell in love. That made me want to learn more about how to play them better and what made them work. So i started tearing apart things and learning how it all went back together. Now I run a team of developers and make a very good salary while having a work life balance I would have never had as a lawyer. There is a fine line though between the nerd in his mom's basement as me. It takes willpower to not sit and play World of Warcraft 7 days a week 15 hours a day. Though there's plenty of money to be made that way too (though less chance of success). Look at people like Pewdiepew on youtube/Twitch. Makes millions each year just playing video games. That's just one success story. There are tons of them, but like anything in the entertainment business there's 100,000 failures for every 1 success story.

I started out studying business, which is my profession, but I could easily brush it all aside and get back into IT. I still keep my skills sharp and probably wouldn't have much difficulty even though I've been out of it on a professional level for 15 years. If they didn't let me handle much of the IT related stuff at work, I'd have been gone long ago. Sitting and staring at numbers 8 hours per day will make your eyes bleed.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the education. I can see the draw to a certain segment of the population. Definitely not for me...two houses, a couple cars and other hobbies keep me more than busy. My 16 year-old was talking to the neighbor kid about it...so I'm sure she'll be wandering around in a trance soon.

thimk of it as a virtual scavenger hunt plays in the real world, yet is on;ly seen via the camera in a smart phone(they call it "augmented reality)

From what I have gathered, you collect pokemon all around you. They pop up in parks, neighborhoods, ect. From there you battle them against other players at "gyms". These are public locations like churches, schools, public parks.

The point is for your team to hold control of the gym. When you do you earn points, ect.

Who would have thought... Technically a video game that forces you off the couch or gaming chair and to get outside and move!
Step in the right direction compared to me telling my kids to find something to do outside most of the time!

Good that you have a way to spend time together and not about to tell you how you should raise your kid but I hope that, at some point, he finds a better pastime.

We are living in a different time these days. If the man is out walking with his 12 year old playing this game then I applaud him. my kids arent terribly interested in this game right now but they have been talking about it, and i will gladly go for walks with them if they want to hunt out these pokemon things..

My kids dont have cellphones(with service), they have old phones that i had in the past, so I don't know how this game will work with no wifi or phone service. So they might be shit outta luck on that one.

You should be able to set up your phone as a wifi hotspot, then they can get their Pokemon on.

I guess when the time comes if they are that interested in it and want to go for walks at stoney creek or something like that maybe Ill do it. They are active in sports 100% of their time so im not terribly concerned with them sitting in a house since they are never in it anyways.

You guys would have a great time. I hike the back trails of Stony frequently, all kinds of interesting stuff back there, and I'm not even looking for Pokemon lol

Ya, I remember Steven Grant went on hike there also, he mentioned in his testimony that it was a nice place to walk and hide/find stuff!

Just set my son up last night after we got home from a bike ride in the park adjacent to our subdivision. There were a ton of kids(some with Parents) out walking or jogging playing this game. Literally all of them running or biking to find the next Pokemon or battle. Initially when I heard about this game I thought it was dumb. While in the park I stopped a group of young boys and asked them how they liked it and they gave me the whole rundown while my son was like "See Dad..."lol They were all sweaty and having fun as a TEAM. They were geeked... was funny

So anyway when we got home (my son not knowing) I set up my old T-Mobile S5 with the game. The cool thing is basically in our sub and surrounding areas we have the Xfinity Hot spot coverage so he is good to go being a Comcast customer. So after all setting it up I gave it to him... I seriously was the BEST Dad EVER!!! Well 5 minutes after giving it to him the storm blew in and he and my oldest daughter got soaked and had to come back to the house. LOL (Both kids were excited and getting along - crazy)

Well Tonight I plan on going out on foot and biking it with him and see how it goes! Guess I am a bad dad for caving into this madness...

+1

Never discourage a kid from wanting to invest time in computers/gaming. At this point, starting salaries of devs are higher than starting salaries on lawyers without as much cost of education. Earning potential is in the same ball park with some devs making more at a junior level than a lawyer at a junior level. There's plenty of 200k+ devs in Seattle. Hell, you can get 140-170k in Detroit at Ford even.
