Places to live in Dearborn (Summer only)

Hi all. Looks like this summer I will be interning at Ford in Dearborn. So I'm going to be looking for a place to live. I've been in IL most of my life, so I'm not really sure what to avoid in the area, or even how traffic is, if I was to live in Livonia for example.
Can you guys recommend a few areas to avoid? Or even a few apartment complexes that might be good?

Thanks!

Livonia is a nice city and wouldn't be too bad of a commute for you at all. Safe bet is to stay West of Middlebelt in certain parts, Merriman in others. A few other members work/live in the area who might be able to give more specific insight on places to live. If you find something you like, i'm sure you could post it up here and we can tell you the area. There are plenty of surface streets and expressway access that would make the drive to Dearborn easy.

As Reiko said, a lot of apts/rentals in Dearborn as well. Post up the area because some will put you right in the middle of his terrorist cousins/bad neighborhoods.

Just rent a place in Royal Oak and commute, its 25 minutes to Dearborn. 2 Minutes to Woodward and actually has stuff to do. But if you really want to live in Dearborn, get a house in the neighborhood between Telegraph and Outer Drive. That seems to be the white neighborhood

Ford is not arranging housing for you over the summer? There are going to be hundreds of interns, so I'm surprised they wouldn't set something up for all the interns to live together.

x2 I interned at Ford in summer 2011, and they had paid housing for their interns (unless you live <50 miles from Dearborn). They had us all either in Fairlane Woods or Fairlane Meadows. I was in Fairlane Woods, right near Ford Rd. and Southfield. Not a bad place, and the price was right.

I interned at Chrysler, and they had the exact same policy. They put us up at a decent place, all expenses paid. They did give us the option to find our own place, but the amount they reimbursed wouldn't have covered rent. It would have been difficult finding a furnished place for only 3 months anyhow.

If you're looking for somewhere with any kind of night life, Royal Oak is about it. Dearborn pretty much closes up as soon as everyone at Ford goes home for the night. That said, the neighborhoods for a mile or so on either side of Telegraph are decent if you want/need to stay in Dearborn.

A bunch of us go out to lunch most days at 11 so let us know when you're here and we can show you around.

Will you include him in the lunch choice randomizer program?

Really? That was the way it was at GM, but I thought I had heard Ford didn't provide housing. Guess I should wait for some more details.

Thanks for the info everyone!

There should be some HR coordinator or something, get in touch with them and ask them about housing.

You mean The Wheel of Yum?
Before we had smartphone apps we had a spreadsheet to randomly choose lunch location of the day. :p

Isn't there a lunch randomizer on the Ford intranet?

Do you guys work in Dearborn also?

I work in Livonia now, but starting on Feb. 24 I'll be working at Ford Racing in Dearborn for 6 months
