Doing some dog research and i figured i'd do a search for "best dogs for kids". Well this site below came up and im not sure how they judged this, but i have to admit i was shocked to see pitbulls(well most of the bully dogs got 1's...pits, staffordshires, american bulldogs). I know all of youwho currently own bully dogs say they are great....i just wasnt expecting a 1!

jack russells- 4
husky-2
Doberman-3
german shepard-2
golden retriever- 1
bully dogs(pit bulls, staffordshire, bulldogs) - 1

1-excellent with kids
2-usually good with kids
3-good if with kids since a puppy
4-best with older considerate kids
5-not recommended for kids

im gonna keep searching to find what other sites judge the breeds at to see if they agree. I figured i'd post it here to get some of your opinions!

They're very people friendly, especially with kids. The ones you read about on the news harming children were either neglected or raised wrong. They're also very protective of their pack.

I love bully breeds - the other one up there I have is the G.S.... GREAT dog... She's been around babies/infants/toddlers... Never hurt or scared a single one. Very protective of her people as well. :)

My boxers are very protective of children. Gizmo, she will sit by the kid and follow them around and like protect the kid. It's hilarious. She gets angry if people start messing around near the kid. It's very cool.

I would have agreed with this statement up until last year when my cousins pit latched on to his sisters arm and started flinging her around like a rag doll. We almost had to shoot him to get him to let go. This dog was spoiled, babied and basically a big lap dog. He was unprovoked and out of nowhere for no reason attacked her. It was pretty disheartening to see because I love dogs and have always defended pits to people saying all of them are bad. Guess I had to see it for myself.

Boxers FTW !! Im getting 1 as soon as my brothers dogs have their first litter ! His male is a fawn, female a brindle....I get pick of the litter for free, I had a male brindle for 13 years (he past )

She was 16 when it happened. It really F'ed me up seeing that. She was around that dog all the time too. I'm still dumbfounded as to why it happened.

Yea i know someone who had a golden retriever who snapped and bit the cheek of a girl(who was about 16-17). At the end of the day they are all still animals.

I have a 4 year old pit-bull , old english bull dog mix....and he is WOUNDFUL with my 5 year old nephew....My dog is so good infact that i have to lock him in my room when my nephew comes over, no one can get close to him if my dog is out my dog will sit right next to him and not let anyone come near him...

I have a staffordshire, got her when our kid was 4, so its been 4 years we've had her now. She's always been good with him whether they are outside running around or if she is sitting with him while he plays in here. Its tough to generalize dogs though since they all have their own personality. But, I would think that kids get bit by smaller dogs a lot more than big ones, on the other hand when the big ones do bite they do more damage.

APBTs, Amstaffs, pbts, ect. consistently rank at the top of temperment tests.

Amstaffs are one of two out of 127 akc breeds that are rated "great with kids"

This is kind of neither here nor there, but I don't car how great the dog is, never leave it unsupervised with a small child. It's just not worth the risk.

I always say that if my boy Woodson had his "uncle" spunky's temperment, he'd have been either put down or made a trip to the dog whisperer a long time ago! Spunky is the in-laws 15lb Jack Russel that's taken chunks out of more than one visitors arm.

I have a 5 year old pit. I don't have any kids but when i'm on walk all the little kids pet her and she is great with the kids.

It's alot better if you have kids for the dog to grow with. My dog would rather lick then bit.

People forget that sometimes. Usually people miss slight changes in the dog or the warning or calming signals they are giving. I think I am a pretty experienced dog person and good with behavior, training, etc. I can say I have missed body language my own dog has done. I am getting a really cool DVD set that is all dog behavior. I am pretty excited!

The majority of dog bites are children. I have the statistics, but I don't have themtime to get them right now. This is why children....especially small children should not be left unattended with dogs. Children don't understand the warning signs, growls, etc the dog gives to tell them to back off and then they get bit.

Pit bulls were known as the nanny dog in England, because they are so great with children.

My dog LOVES my nephew who is almost 3. He also thrives on kids loving and petting him on walks.

It's kinda unrelated but this reminds me of a funny dvd my cousin brought home called the dog sitter. It's a dvd for dogs and I swear to god when we put it in the doberman and pit were sitting there watching it like a kid watches spongebob lol. We were rolling!
