What are flat top pistons and what do they do?

Do they raise or lower the compression?

Oh, I didnt know, my friend told me he has flat top pistons when I asked him what mods he has.

ahh, well, depending on type of motor, they could be a decent improvement, as even flat tops have some differences

just pistons? generally not on their own, but if the heads, cam, intake and carb/efi are a good match, if will add a measurable amount

no, heads and cam are stock, but he has an after-market intake and carb. how much power would it add with the stuff he has?

depending on the setup probably not much lol even with a decent intake the heads cams and manifolds are gonna restrict the airflow. depending on the carb type "vacuum secondary" "Mechanical" and intake type "single plane" "dual plane" etc he could be making less power than stock.
