Ben Skidmore damn dude...doesn't sound like to bad of a fix though.

Jason Boyce No it doesn't but you still shouldn't have to fix it! You just bought the car!
Josh LaBean Won't make the trip back in current condition. The oil leak is turbo related and the trans fluid leak is RTV related. Im pretty sure there should be a gasket on that cover and not RTV.

Josh LaBean They are closed sat and sun. Hopefully ib hear back Monday. Really hope they take care of this and save their reputatuon.

Jake Demeter RTV is better than a gasket in most cases, you have to use the right kind and prep it properly. Why is the return leaking?

Josh LaBean The hose might have a hole it in from rubbing on the down pipe. I replaced the clamp because it wasn't doing anything. But after that it is still leaking. It could be coming out of the turbo also. Looks like its either the return line or the turbo itself.

Jake Demeter If its a section of rubber hose I would replace it and all the clamps. Just make sure you clean everything up so the hose will seal. And if you can use 2 clamps. I just went thru this with my trans cooler lines.

Josh LaBean I don't have the time today to dive into it any more. Work at 4.

Josh LaBean Monday I can look into it more and see what's what.

Jake Demeter But you shouldn't have these issues already, you just got it.

Josh LaBean Ikr. If they make this right I'll forgive the issue. If not. It could be bad for their reputatuon.

Jason Boyce Smh if rtv was better than gaskets, for one why is it leaking, for two why do they even make gaskets? I really hope they take care of it. Doesn't that fall under the lemon law? Or is that just for new vehicles?

Jake Demeter They make gaskets for things that dont have one from the factory. Its leaking because the surface needs to be prepped and the right RTV needs to be used. I have never had an issue with proper RTV use to seal anything. And most transmissions are sealed with guess what? RTV.
1 hr · Edited · Like
Jason Boyce Most transmissions are not sealed with rtv, I'm not sure where you're getting your information from. Don't be me wrong I do use rtv but for the most part gaskets DON'T LEAK. I've prepped surfaces right before and used rtv and it has still leaked. Rtv...See More

Brandon Boyce Should be a cheap easy fix if they don't want to, but it still sucks. I wouldn't go back after this though..

Jake Demeter Head gaskets and sealing cases on a trans are two different things.

Jason Boyce But I thought you could replace gaskets with rtv?

Jason Boyce I'm going to go ahead and assume that you also think that higher octane fuels make your car go faster.

Josh LaBean I heard that Brandon. The cover should be easy. If I can't fix it I know a guy who could probably do it (Tony) And the oil leak could possibly cost a new turbo.. The car only has 77k on it. These problems aren't high mileage issues. They are installer errors or defective parts..

Jake Demeter I never said every gasket is useless. There are cases where OEMS dont use gaskets but the aftermarket produces them. LT1s intakes are sealed via RTV. SR20 oil pans are factory sealed with RTV. DOHC saturns VC gasket is all RTV. The waterpump in my 7.3L...See More

Jason Boyce If the surface isn't machined flat you have issues. Apparently you know nothing of Lt1' s gm has used gaskets on virtually everything for years. If an engine has a machined surface, they make a gasket for it. All the rtv is for is to fill in tiny pits ...See More

Jake Demeter DEX cool ate the gaskets, it wasnt the gaskets fault they failed, the coolant would turn acidic and eat them.

Jason Boyce They also made a replacement gasket for the gm intakes that were resistant to the dexcool. I know the dexcool ate the gaskets. It is acidic and therefore ate said gaskets. Hence the early recalls. Also why they went back to a more eco friendly coolant ...See More

Jason Boyce You don't have to waste your time Jake im not the fucking moron who puts rtv on everything. I told you its intended use. They give you a small tube not a fucking caulk gun of it. Do yourself a favor and educate yourself and read a little bit instead of sitting at home in your moms basement playing forza or gran turismo

Don Middleton Ummmm.. Lt1s use intake gaskets... I'm kind of a lt1 pro... You use rtv at the front and rear but the mating surface between the head and intake uses a gasket. Gaskets always seal better than rtv...
