What is the best way to get a passport? I figured I should get one now before I really need one and kick myself in the ass. Anyone have any ideas or what I need to take, etc?

go on the US post office website. You need a handful of different ID, basic stuff like that, as well as passport photos.
There should be a form on the site that you can probably fill out and print, that'll also tell you what you need. If you dont really travel out of the country though, you dont need it, but if its something pre-emptive, go for it...
 
I just got one for my fishing trip to Canada. Get a passport photo taken, go to the post office and fill out a few forms. It's really simple. Takes about 3-4 weeks on the short side. You can get a rush one, but unless you are leaving right way save your money.
 
Canada=enhanced liscence...cheaper and one week to get.

BTW i have to get a passport for work, where did you have the photo taken, and what did it cost you?

Passport=EVERY country......never know when you need to leave/flee :)

You can go to Meijer, it's like $2.00. I think the passport was round $100.
 
do you have an old one? if so the old one can be sent with the correect paper works and it comes back a little quicker...
 
I just finally got one a few months back. I got my pictures done at CVS and filled out the paperwork at the post office. I had my passport in hand 10 days later. I didnt pay for the expedited service either.
 
Passport prices went up recently. Go to AAA for free pictures. I just renewed mine in July and it took a month or so.
 
Depending on where you live city hall may be able to process everything for you.
I know it is / was that way in Warren when I got my wife and kids thiers.
 
Also, any Fedex office should be able to do your PP photo...Mine was like $10.00. I had to have my passport expedited for work...it cost like 400.00 to do so (was at my house in 3 days). Thankfully, I did not have to pay for it :).
