I'm having a tough time accepting that I can't go to a parts store and get everything I want.
I have 2 cars I want to do brakes and ignition stuff on.
If I find all the part numbers of what I want, and order from rock auto, and I then take apart my daily driver, find out I have the wrong part, WTF do you do then?
Today I had someone ask me to install a bathroom ceiling fan for them. One was installed but did not work and they wanted it replaced.
Went up in the attic and removed the old POS.
Found one at home depot, says its in stock, so I go to get it, don't have it, nothing even remotely like I need.
Found something else, modify the ceiling to make it fit, half the parts missing from it so I had to improvise more.
Got everything working, took a hell of a long time to do a simple job.
Seems to be such an easy task, go to the store and get what you need, then install it.
Instead, have to see what you have, order online, then get parts next day maybe, then go back up and try to install.
What if you get the wrong parts now? Or need something else? Have to order again online and wait another day...
End up taking 3-4 days maybe to do a simple 3-4 hour job....
Maybe I'm old school, but I'd prefer to make a plan and do the job in a few hours and be done rather than drag it out over a week.
Get dirty, find out parts are not right, or need more, clean up mess. Next day repeat and hope you got the right stuff now...
