Painted engine bay

Well, I've wanted to paint my engine bay for some time now. I was talking with Smooth to have him do it, and his prices were extremely fair. However I had to have some work done on my shortblock, and its not gonig to be cheap. So I decided to try and keep this as "budget" oriented as possible.

This was done using Duplicolor rattle can paint, clear, 250-1200 wet/dry sanding, AND minimum paint experience. :scared: I think it came out OK, around 4-5 hours of labor. I'm sure it would be much better if I had someone who knew what they were doing paint it, but this saved me a lot of money. Cost around $28 total, and if you know what the stock Fbody towers look like, you can see its a major improvement. :1syellow1

Those hoses are getting new sleeves, so I wasn't worried about overspray on those. The actual metal is very uneven, with lots of ridges. Really rough to work with. A lot of guys use bondo to smooth everything out. I just didn't have the time frame, or skill to do all that.

Not the best but you get the idea.

These pictures are about 20 minutes after the final clearcoat, its a bit more glossy now. Should look really good once its waxed, just didn't have time before the work week started.

I've really wanted to get this done since the last time I had the K-member out. It was really dull and not that clean under the hood. I didn't have the time or money to do little projects like this last time so I'm glad to get it done, won't be perfect but its one step forward. :)

Ahh maybe I will, maybe not. Either way my engine bay looks better.

lmao yea you got me there..but my engine bay got me a better et lol

bad part about spray can is its durability sucks, anything that hits it chemical wise lifts/softens it. Looks nice though, cant go wrong for 28 bux!

cool. i couldnt stand the dullness either. I did mine a few years ago. never did get around to painting the underside of the hood though

That looks really good! I might do the front support bar once I get some stuff out of here. I'm going to have a member powdercoat a lot of the little brackets, just didn't wanna risk overspray for the time being. Garage is already full of shit so I didn't have room to take it off either lol.

Yep, I agree with durability. I hope since its under the hood it should be okay. I'm going to try and keep my breathers on my valve covers really clean this year to avoid any oil residue. There was plenty of it when I tore it down.

Thanks again for the comments. I'll get some more pictures once I get everything back together.
