Paint question

If show quality was agreed upon at the time the quote for $8k I would be sending the car back to get done again the right way. If they knew the job they had when they quoted it then it's it's the shop problem to eat the difference in the work. Not cheap out to make the money last. They under quoted the job by the sounds of it and tried to cheap out a little to make themselves not sound like complete asses by asking for more $$$ mid-way through the job.

This was only the first stage as I wanted the whole car done so I can reassemble. 50% deposit already paid as some family emergencies have arisen and I don't screw with anyones money cause I don't want mine fucked with. They wanted to do engine bay, interior and floor- so the exterior hasn't been sprayed yet.

Check out windsorstangs.com as I have a section on that site and you can see what quality I do and expect as they are alot of my customers

How do I want to say this...NEVER GIVE MONEY UP FRONT!!! If they can't float $8K (most of it labor) they should not be in business. And if you do leave money, make it materials only. I'd have them strip the car and start over.

If this was my Studebaker, I'd have been spitting fire.

One I guess I need to start charging a lot more and I wont touch anyone's car unless they leave 50% before we start. You would not believe how many times people get started on a project and then cant/wont/dont come up with the money to pay for the job. The deposit is a way to make sure someone is ready to commit to the project. A fast way to go out of biz is to paint a few cars and not get paid for them. Then fight to get your money which just costs even more in the long run....

Sorry about your luck with this. I hope the shop takes care of the issues for you.

The pictures are probably making it look better than it is. Can you color sand the door sills or are there spots where the paint is not covering? You might have to suck it up at this point and color sand your ass off to make it look right. There is no worse feeling than getting your car back thinking it is going to look like it was explained to you, and getting something much less.

Oh I'm upset as anyone who knows me knows the quality I expect. I wouldn't blast the car if I wanted dirt in the paint.
Now do I give him the benefit of doubt to fix it or do it myself and get someone else to spray it for m? I'm really unsure of quality issues now(quality to one person isn't quality to another).

Well just feel it out. Talk to them about it and express your dislikes in the quality so far, and judging by what was completed so far you are unsure how the rest of the car will look once completled. If you don't get a warm fuzzy then you may wanna look elsewhere.

anywhere you have an issue put a piece of masking tape. then get the shop manager to come over and go thru each one and see what they have to say, you need to start documenting this to CYA...what you paid, what you wanted, what you got and how it was not what you wanted, in writing, with dates and names and pics of the car, and pics with all the spots you are unhappy with. As you work thru this and end up getting more pissed, it will make you more credable to have all your facts stright!

good luck.

I painted both these cars myself. No booth. No experience on the notch...first time. The GT was my 3rd paint job. The GT was my buddies car. Both cars are now long gone. You just gotta take some time and do it right. Read a lot before you spray. Try test panels, play with the gun and air pressure.

I guess I always end up showing what the average joe can do. That's all I am. I almost always talk people into doing stuff themselves. Save $$

Fuck, screw the customer being mad!

I would be upset as the body shop manager! I wouldn't have let it leave my shop looking like that! Especially for eight grand!

I'm all about saving $$$, but this wasn't the case if he just dropped $8K and was pissed off about his paint not being mint....Clearly a $8K paint job wasn't in the OP's realm....

Yes I have documented everything, body shop is closed till Monday due to Autorama. But I am still waiting for a reply from him. Judging by the quality I could have done the job myself (even with the rattle can) but wanted a nice job done first time. This whole project was suppose to be finished by end of Feburary as wife was pregnant with our son with April due date. We started back in Nov and car has been at bodyshop since before xmas.
