Pacer X Revealed!

I really agree with the thought of you bringing that to Ubly this Saturday. I'm sure everyone would love to see that sweet ride go down the track.

+1 for a sweet ass car too!

Had a little mishap with the Pacer last night. Driving home from work I was near home and getting on the gas. After shifting into 2nd power died, it coughed and popped then lost fire as I pulled over. Checked for the obvious and it seems to be spark related but unable to locate in the dimming light. As luck would have it though I was less than one mile from C.A.R.S. in Waterford. They got out the flatbet and picked the Pacer up and it is now in their capable hands. I havn't talked with Sean yet but I'll bet it's something minor (distributor/DUI?) Looks like I'll be adding C.A.R.S. to my list helpfull allies. Big thanks in advance.

i had a 78 cj-5 with the 4.2 with the clifford intake a holley 350 cfm intake i did the 4.0 head swap i bet i gained at least 40 horsepower plus more tq. if you do it let me know because the articles i read online says to use the 4.2 push rods but they are to short because the 4.0 head has raised ports (thicker casting) its worth the swap though you can get one for around 100 bucks but you will have to modifiy the intake it will work i did it but clifford said it wont

Thanks man! A 4.0 head swap is definitly a good way to go for sure and in the cards. The engine in it now is a mystery motor from Colorado and was in a road race Spirit. I thought 186 rwhp @4800 (210-220 crank) was pretty stout for this motor but more power is always welcome! (I'm secretly planning an EFI turbo I-6 motor... don't tell anybody). BTW my breakdown last week was a broken distributor shaft. New one is on the way. The Pacer will see the track before long!!!

also on these you can put the bigger ford style dist cap these tend to get spark bounce inside the cap at higher rpms. unless you have a after market ignition set up already

Very cool project!!!

My next door neighbor took delivery of am mint green Pacer X back in the day, they did look like fishbowls then and now :D

UPDATE: Made it out to Lapeer today and got in a couple of baseline runs. Ran a 14.30 at a little over 95 mph. Launched good, shifted GREAT, and drove straight. I've never had so much fun going so slow! A blast to race! I was lined up with a Red GTP and left him. I knew he had the beans to catch me but it wasn't entil past the 1/8th that he came around me (low 13). A big relief for him I'm sure! lol Really, how would he live that down?

I do have plans for the car over the winter. I don't want to let the cat out of the bag too early, but one of the upgrades will be a cage. I'll leak the rest out during the coming months.:secret:
