Optima Battery help

I use only Yellow Tops. I use them because they are the most expensive, so they have to be good. But seriously, for a A/V system pulling lots of power, Yellow is the way to go. For a "race" car, a Red is more than enough.

Wrong!! Blue tops are the most expensive. The white car has had the little red top in it for 6 years now. Even sat two winters with out charging it. Even today after sitting uncharged for 5 months on the garage floor it has 12.68V

Ive always used the red tops. Never had a problem. My motor is 13 to 1 compression, with the red top it still cranks over hard, even when the motor is hot. I have electric water pumps, electric fans, fuel pump etc. I keep up on it, and use a trickle charger when the car is sitting, but never had a problem with optima reds.

Had a red top in my camaro all year without one problem...now it's in my neon after it's old battery took a crap...lol

i have the smaller optima red in my taurus.. this weekend i jumped my freinds car 5 times due to him having a bad alternator killing his batt. and he lives in ohio.. then later that day when i came out from working a 10hr shift i noticed my dome light was on.. cranked the car right up like nothing happened. woot.

i have a red top under the hood and yellow in the truck of the 62. I havent had a problem with them. they are sorta costly.WERE DO YOU plan on going to buy it? I do work at advance auto parts

i live off 7 mile and merriman, theres a auto zone at 7mile/middlebelt. thats where i planned on going, any chance of a discount?? :)

I dont care what anyone says.. a wet cell battery will outlast any dry cell by far.. the only good thing with using the dry cells like a optima is becuase you can mount the fucker upside down, sideways whatever u want..

if you want a good battery go buy a marine wet cell deep cycle it will last for years and will hold its charge thru the winter.

FlagmanBill,

Give my sponsor a call - Battery Service Corp. They are in Bensenville, Illinois (20 miles west of Chicago) Tell Tom Baker you talked to Mike with the Camaro and you want a deal on the battery. I personally use two yellows in parallel as I have no alternator. I race an entire day and don't even charge 'em at all. Ignition, Starter (14.5:1 600 inch motor) magnafuel pumps, electric water pump, fan, blah blah....

Call Tom Baker: 1-800-425-4071:badass:

Almost every optima i have seen that was "bad" came back testing good from optima. autozone, murray's, etc. don't have the proper equipment to accurately test optimas which is why optima has an inspection first warranty, i have seen 2 optimas in 6 years that were actually bad.

I even have an optima in my garage that a customer (back when i used to work at ramchargers) gave to me because he said it was dead, wouldnt take a charge, and was way off of warranty, plus he owed me a few dollars, but anyways, havent charged the thing in 5 years now, and it still (last month) has 11.73 volts in it.

Something optima has told us repeatedly is it will not take a charge w/o a load on it, so you need to put a test light constantly on it when bench charging, or if its in the car try charging it w/ your parking lights on

I'm iffy on them now. Bought a yellow and within 2 months it was dead. I'm gonna tear the car apart this winter and see if I have a short somewhere, or if possibly it is the battery itself.

Hey you should try getting ahold of joey, I remember someone telling me they saw red tops at costco for like $95 and eyllows for not that much more...i got my yellow top for $90 when i worked at ABC warehouse, i got it from mickey shorr.

I got my red top at Costco a year or so ago for <$100. It keeps draining on me so I think I'm going to bring it back. The good thing about Costco is that they will take anything back if you don't like it or it doesn't work as advertised.

redbaron, thanks i'll use him as a last resort. i totally forgot that costco sold them, and i am a member. twotwo, best i've seen is like 179, for a red top, but it wasnt the cca that i wanted.

Bill give me a call. I can get those batteries dirt cheap. I believe I can get them for about $60 but I havent checked in awhile. dan
