Truck is a 1983 GMC 2500 6.2l Diesel 2wd auto trans.
If you turn the key to start too quickly (the NORMAL way), you get grinding, as if the the gear isn't making it out far enough to mesh w/ the flywheel, and instead just grinding against it. Turning the key very slowly and steadily is almost always effective. Any ideas what would cause this? Would like to avoid it, but is it time for a new starter?
