That is why racecars should have remote fire suppression systems, incase the driver cannot activate it and the sensors are damaged... the crew can push the button

That happened in Japan some time ago (10 years?). The Ferrari driver lived (although burned to hell). He also sued the track (and won a pile of money) for the lack of support.
