Kalitta Air expansion could mean 100 new jobs
Iosco County News Herald
An expansion of facilities at Kalitta Air in Oscoda could bring more than 100 skilled labor jobs to Oscoda, according to Kalitta Engine Maintenance Supervisor Rich Bray.
Bray said the company is going forward with plans to expand building No. 5306, a former nuclear weapons storage facility once operated by the U.S. Air Force as part of the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base.
The building – now a machine shop – is owned and leased to Kalitta Air by the Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport (OWA) Authority. About 180 people are employed within it to specifically work on engines, according to Bray.
Workers at the shop overhaul and test General Electric CF6 turbofan engines, which Bray said are used on a variety of aircraft.
