Official 2010 Michigan State Football thread

oh, and the final of the northern colorado game was 45 - 7. I'm guessing Dantonio is still classy because xxx (insert your lame excuse here).

Let's break it down for you Ryan...

MSU 38, WMU 14 - At the half it was 28-7, and no, scoring 10 points isn't running up the score...
MSU 45, NCU 7 - At the half it was 35-0, and again the second half margin was 10-7
MSU 31, UMN 8 - At the half it was 21-0, and again MSU had a minimal scoring advantage (10-8)
UM 65, BGSU 21 - At the half UM had a 28-14. With UM's defense, I'd say hardly safe. At the end of the third quarter it was 44-21. When do you call the dogs off? Did UM really have to cram the ball down Bowling Greens throat? UM's second half scoring margin was 37-7. That's not running up the score? Come on. Rich Rod did the same thing at West Virginia. Classy guy. I hope they give him a five year extension for being bowl eligible.

With the losses by Utah, Alabama, Oklahoma and Missouri, Michigan State may actually make it back to the Top 10 this week.

Let's break it down for you what you said and what I said.

I said if you don't win by at least 35, you have no right to even bring up the word NC and MSU in the same sentance.

You said that Dantonio is too classy of a coach and he would never run up the score. You didn't say anything about how the score at half time is reflective of whether the score has been ran up (because it isn't. If you win by 100 and the score is 20 at half time or 99 at half time, you still ran up the score). So just man up and say "Yea, MSU has ran up the score, I opened my mouth without thinking (imagine that) and now look like an idiot because I was proven wrong.

I could care less if we win by big numbers. The difference is who is playing at the time, not what the score is at what moment in the game. In the BG game, Michigan played 3 different QB's and went deep into the bench. Do you in your infinite wisdom think the team should drive down the field to the 1 yard line, then turn the ball over to keep the score sane? Sometimes when you post I wonder if you really do have some sort of logical process problems.

according to Swift they did. If a 35 point spread is running up the score, then a 38 point spread is definitely running it up.

when you are going for 7 with under 2 minutes left and already up by 30 , thats running the score up google steve spurrier to see examples

Michigan State is #10 in the AP and Coaches polls. Some good games over the next couple weeks between Wisconsin & OSU. Penn St looks a little tougher since the QB change. The UM-Wisconsin game should be interesting in that Wisconsin hasn't won a game in the state of Michigan in forever. MSU really needed the bye this week to get some rest.

My example of running up the score was the UM/Bowling Green game. A 23 point lead going into the 4th Qrt and then tacking another 21 is running up the score. MSU typically just runs the ball into the line and kills the clock. Do what you can in the 1st half. Score 70 if you can. But did UM really have to score 37 points in the second half to win that game? No, a trying to make a case that they needed to is crazy.

Yes you did. I remember my wrongness vividly.

Although a big part of the reason is the emergence of Tannehill and there's no way anyone saw that coming.

I just went with the A&M pulls a upset once a year. big 12 is a mess just like the SEC

Oregon VS TCU for the NC?

Oregon vs TCU sounds about right to me at this point. TCU's big win over Utah should be enough to keep them up in the human polls and they are even doing well in the computers for now. Boise has some shot if they can impress against Nevada, as long as Nevada keeps winning until then.

The Big 12 is a huge mess. Nebraska created some separation in the North with their win over Iowa State and with Missouri losing. That Nebraska game was ugly. The wild cat was their primary offensive formation. When a team starts a game with 3 wildcat plays you know it's going to be a long day. Their 3rd string QB for all the hype he had at one point sucks, bad. Martinez is hurt and Zac Lee (back up and last year's starter) has some sort of arm issue. When Zac is healty he's a good QB but he's more prone to arm injuries than Stafford. Disappointed big time in the Oklahoma loss. I was really hoping for one last Nebraska - Oklahoma game with some implications larger than the conference for both teams. That is done now. Oklahoma will be lucky to even get in the Big 12 Championship now. It'll be a rematch of the yet to be played Texas A&M game or the OSU game.

If OSU beats up on Iowa and UM, I think their Strength of schedule would take them up to number 2.

Not a chance. Heck, they need to get ahead of Wisconsin. OSU and Wisconsin still have Michigan. Wisconsin isn't losing to UM.

Wow, the Big 10 is a mess. Pac 10 is the only big conference that isn't either a mess (Big 10, Big 12 and SEC are total messes), or completely fucking terrible. The MAC is doing better in the polls as a whole than the Big East. That's right the MAC is beating a BCS conference. C-USA has as many ranked teams (1) as the Big East and ACC COMBINED. The only Ranked team from the ACC lost a game to a I-AA school. Garbage. Completely embarrassing the the MWC doesn't get an auto big over the Big East and ACC.
