Official 2010 Michigan State Football thread

#1. Michigan fired Gary Moeller for getting drunk at a restaurant.

#2. When you are a part of the team, you represent the school on a national level. It's all about perception.

#3. But, I guess that's OK by you logic... it's not a felony, so it's no big deal? Your words, not mine.

#4. Let's not forget, this was his second "not a felony" in about a 1 year span. How many times do you have to embarass your school before they kick you off the team? I guess it depends on how good you are as a player?

Fired? Your memory is wrong... Let's see... He's a HEAD COACH that was being arrested for DISORDERLY CONDUCT, that was going crazy when the police were arresting him..... Yup, totally similar situations... Because Chris Rucker totally put up resistance when he was pulled over... And you say that like you're a true saint that has never drank or got in a fight.....

Moeller resigned in May 1995 after tapes were released of his alleged drunken outburst following an arrest on a charge of disorderly conduct at the now-defunct Excalibur restaurant

Also, how about Brett Favre's recent escapades... It's not like Chris Rucker was sending pictures of his willy to the female staff of the Big 10 Network....

And yes - a misdemeanor is different than a felony... I sure hope you don't vote for anyone in our government who has ever been convicted of a crime... And I sure hope you didn't vote for/support Bill Clinton after the Monica Lewinski shit started flying... I guess we should start removing peoples hands for any time they go to court as a defendant more than once....

For the record, I don't care if this was Denard Robinson... I'd want him off of the team at Michigan had he committed similar offenses. And I'm sure MOST Michigan fans are the same way.

You make the most ridiculous comparisons. You're so scatterbrained it's almost impossible to conduct a reasonable argument.

1. Yes, Moeller got drunk and abusive. So he "resigned". You really don't think that was a gentlemen's agreement between Michigan and Moeller so that they didn't have to fire him? Of course it was. The point is, Moeller AND the University agreed that his conduct was not in line with what's expected of perhaps the most public figure of the school. So they both did what was necessary.

2. If you want to compare which one was "worse", how many lives were endangered by Moeller? How many by Rucker? You type DISORDERLY CONDUCT is BIG CAPITAL LETTERS like it's somehow worse than driving drunk?

Based off your beliefs of cops, Moeller was a bigger risk... Because had he put up any more of a fight he cops would have started shooting and killed half the patrons in the restaurant :D

Let's see... Did he hurt anyone? No. His charge was dropped to reckless driving. He blew 0.10. Legal limit is .08..... Which is essentially 1 drink too many... Was he impaired? Sure... But he didn't damage any vehicles, anyone, or anything... I sure hope you never drink without calling a cab. :D

And it's totally possible to conduct "reasonable" arguments with me. Comparing a starting player kid with the HEAD COACH whom is a grown man - who is the one who LEADS BY EXAMPLE - is pretty poor of a comparison. Yes - he does represent the team, but he is also but just a human. To err is to be human. He made a mistake. The courts feel he satisfied the punishment. He was suspended from team festivities for over 2 weeks. He missed homecoming festivities... It WILL be reflected in his chance to go pro... And you KNOW there is a "gentlemens agreement" in this situation as well, because Dantonio said it's up to Chris if he returns to join them on the trip this weekend..... In other words: "It's his choice if he wants to meet the stipulations I have presented him with and be a part of my program." --- Dantonio keeps things private, and if you think he is welcoming him back with open arms and no private stipulations you'd be wrong.

But it's nice how the Spartan fans choose to stick their heads in the sand in the only defense that they can muster..

"Well... yeah he did this, but it's not like he's Brett Farve." or "At least he didn't commit a felony" or as stated above "It was ONLY a .10, that's only a bit drunk" LOL

How about just simply manning up, admitting that this is a flaw in your team's direction, and trying to do the right thing?

Believe me, as I stated, even if this was the best player on Michigan's team... I would be standing outside of the fence saying "I want him off the team, I don't support the decision to bring him back. This is wrong."

Even Swifster at least has the balls to say that this punishment is too light. I respect him (a little bit) for that.

This, exactly. You're wasting gratuitous amounts of time. Push the eject button now while you still have your sanity.

Quoted for truth!

Look, regarding the November incident, half the guys (including Rucker) were just following other guys and had no idea what was going to happen. The main instigators were dismissed from the team.

While I understand what Rucker was convicted of (reckless driving), he was arrested for drunk driving. His blood alcohol level was .095. This was the legal level 7 or 8 years ago. In either case he violated his probation. He deserved his 10 days in jail. But along with that, he missed classes. A student athlete who doesn't go to class gets suspended.

On both of these issues, it's a lot about nothing. But at the same time, he represents the school. While I disagree that he should have been dismissed from the program, I think leaving him at home while the team traveled to it's biggest game of the year would have been the right thing to do, and would sent a strong message. I also don't think this is a decision the players should have had a say in. So while I don't think reinstating Rucker was the right thing to, I think at least leaving him home against Iowa would have fair. Then reinstate him.

Sorry Jim, not me. If Denard was marauding around campus assaulting people, and getting arrested for DUI, it's time for him to go.

Mike, kicking the guy off the team is a bit unreasonable. You are the only person saying he should be kicked off the team. None of the pro-UM writers were even suggesting that. But as mentioned, I don't think you bring him back this game. Hopefully Dantonio won't play him, or will only play him in a mop-up situation.

Look at Cam newton for auburn hes was "fired" from florida for stolen laptops Boys gonna win a Heisman and possibly play for the NC at auburn and everybody has forgotten the laptop issue , as long as you win people dont care

If it was just one thing... I would say yes, suspended for a game or two. But this is his second arrest/conviction in less than a year. One of which was a violent crime. I just wouldn't want a guy like that representing the school.... but I guess that's just me.

And I find that an unfortunate consequence of the big business that is college football.

He didn't hit anyone. His mistake? He was there. He got a misdemeanor. Those involved in violence are not on the team.

While Michigan will be preparing to get their asses handed to them by Alabama, MSU will open the 2012 season at home on Aug 31 against Boise State. It's a 2 for 1 contract with the last two games being played in 2022 & 2023. MSU will pay Boise State $1.2M for the trip. The other non-conference games that year will be against ND & EMU at home and at ... CMU.

They'll have OSU, Iowa, Nebraska and Northwestern at home and play Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota on the road. Looks like an interesting, yet fair schedule. Ranked teams could be BSU, ND, OSU, Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska and MAYBE UM or NW.

2022 and 2023? Is that a typo?

Either way, it will be cool to see Boise State play a Big 10 team

No typo. With the possibility of the Big Ten going to 9 conference games, the schedule is almost full for the next 15 years.
