[OFFICAL] Forza 3 Picture Thread

:)

*** Gallery for the images you create: http://forums.forzamotorsport.net/forums/thread/3161350.aspx***

*Picture and Video Tutorial Coming soon*

I've found a way to get great quality images out of photomode! If you take zoomed in shots and stitch them together afterwords, it'll make a high quality large picture. I'll try and post a tutorial if people are interested. When viewing the photos full size, I suggest comparing the Lotus logo, you can really see the difference! With this method you can make desktop wallpapers, poster prints, or even a higher quality standard 720p image.

This image I went overboard and used 18 pictures, but I've also done this exact same photo with 6 pictures. [http://www.flickr.com/photos/brodelicious/4058315862/sizes/o/in/pool-1242354@N21/] I'd say 6 (3x2) is good enough for 1280x720 forum viewing. This 18 photo one is able to be super zoomed and is over 4000pixels wide full size. Of course it's all about stiking a balance between quality and time consumtion, But 6 is quite easy to do, and will make a huge difference.

****Tutorial****

(will improve on it later)

The game appears to perfectly rotate around the center axis! This means that as long as you don't move the left thumb stick and only use the left, you can line up the images in any program including MS Paint.

1.Find an angle you want of your car, and zoom in as far as you can (20X)

2. Move back the camera to a distance that you can fit the parts of the car into 2 rows of 3 images

3. Take the photos and use only the right analogue stick to move the camera. Don't touch the left analogue stick at all. Start on the far left, and pay attention to how much area the FM3 logo takes up. You will cut off the horizontal bottom slice of each picture to get rid of the logo. If you move left to right, make sure there is a 25% overlap between photos. When you move up or down for the next row, make sure to leave enough room to crop out the bottom horizontal slice to get rid of the logo.

4. Download the Photos to your computer, load them into a photo program, and cut off the vertical left slice of the image that contains the logo. Align all the images in a big enough work area and match up the features.

or

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=free+panoramic+software (Hugin works quite well if I remember right)

5. Post it to a photo site like imageshack or Flickr

Example:
Single shot taken in photo mode, comes out at 90kb, and has horrible compression. I found I can't even do contrast adjustments in photoshop the colour information is so badly damaged:

[Remember you can't see it in the preview, click on the link please!]

http://www.flickr.com/photos/brodelicious/4055446557/sizes/o/

Now look at the stiched together image [Keep in mind I didn't bother doing a row of shots for the lower road, so the dimensions are slightly different]:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/brodelicious/4055446887/sizes/o/

And since it has more information, I can adjust contrast and colour:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/brodelicious/4055447259/sizes/o/

Here's a close up comparison for people who can't be bothered to download. The difference is amazing IMHO:

Then since everything is so crisp you can create some great compositions!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/brodelicious/4058278559/sizes/l/

This is Motown. You should really learn to deal with things being off topic. You're lucky things even stay on the topic of Forza.

Example being the Forza video thread, which has gone from being about videos to being about dirtybird being gay, a popular topic for a topic to revert to when it strays from its original topic on Motown.

It is, since it seems many of motown has a gay man crush on me, really makes me happy that I live so far away from most all of you.

This is one huge clusterfuck of a sentence. What the hell did you just try to say?

HDR Forza

Many people in the photography industry drool of HDR (high Dynamic Range) I am not one of them. I know its purpose and how to use it. 95% of HDR photography is done incorrectly. When done right the result are stunning. With photomodes exposure, brightness and contrast (technically all controlling exposure) we can create these images.

Here is an example of a nice HDR:

and a bad one:

HDR done incorrectly can make you image look like Dr. Suess vomited on it.

What you need to to is take pictures at 3 exposures. One Over exposed (exposing for shadow/low-mid tone detail) another as a base exposure (correct exposure) and an under exposed shot (exposing for detail in highlights, being sure that the very smallest bright spot reaches 255)

You will need Photoshop or Photomatix http://www.hdrsoft.com/

typically with a camera you bracket in stops. well we arent measuring in stops in forza so we have to just adjust. figure 10-15 points on your exposure. this all depends on your light ratios and how contrasty the light is. (pretty complicated, Wikipedia "Light Ratios")

My tests on the test track out in the open with a neutral gray car gave me about 15 clicks on my exposure setting. for this demonstration i will reset my controls to default and go from there.

ONCE YOU HAVE YOUR SHOT DONT MOVE THE CAMERA

my first shot is my Base at default settings

My next shot is my over shot with exposure set to 65

my under shot is with my exposure value at 35.

your settings may vary and for demonstration im not adjusting anything else. so that i dont confuse anyone. obviously for best results you must adjust your settings for the desired look.

now that you have your three images download them to your computer and open in either photoshop or photomatix. I will be using photomatix as it does a better job. the program is pretty straight forwad open up, select your images and tell it to generate an image. once it gives you that hit the button that says tone mapping. you will then be given a tool bar of sliders to adjust. adjust your images to the desired effect and hit process. it will give you the processed image and then go to file>save as and save the file. you can now edit this file in photoshop if you wish.

to do the HDR processing in photoshop is a little tricky. you basically open all the files in photoshop, go to file>automate>merge to HDR. then use opened files and follow along with it and see what you get. photoshops HDR tools just arent as powerful.

now if you wish you can process the files in photoshop like i mentioned to edit them any way you please.

the end result is something like this.

original

If you have any questions just ask, if i were at work and on a real computer instead of this crummy old Mac book pro maybe i could do something a little nicer.

Anyway, hope you enjoy and if you are still confused just ask. I can in time add some more detailed instructions with screen shots of the programs and such. Possibly tomorrow.

they are but they used brakes and gas in a bouncing motion along with the crest of the hill while at speed. So they are not dead stop power wheelies
