I sold my original 72 Z/28 intake, carb and valve covers which was on the car. I am thinking of putting an old Edelbrock SY1 intake on my car.....

Besides being awesome looking, will it do anything for performance, or are you thinking of dialing it back for more fun? I’ve thought about doing that to mine.

I have 2 styles....These were originally developed by GM for the Trans-Am series in the late 60's and early 70's. They have long runners to act the same as a tunnel ram, only the carb is mounted sideways. The original GM intake had 2 carbs on it. The Edelbrock one was developed by Smokey Yunick and that is why it is called the SY-1 for the first style he came up with. BUT, you could also get one with a dual carb set-up which was the ST-10. The Edelbrock versions are commonly called Smokey rams. Then Offenhauser came up with one with several different configurations including a top for a Dominator carb. Offy also makes them for an AMC and Mopar...

The Offenhauser version is nearly identical to the original GM version and mine has a top for a Quadrajet carb which can also be used with a Holley if you have an adapter.

Had the same valve covers on my 69 Chevelle also added a 69 Camaro cowl induction air cleaner. Gave the motor a LT-1 look to it was the goal.casper.JPG
