most D/R cars use the 8.8 still. now the hit isnt as hard to the driveline as it is with a stick, but its still pretty violent. and the tire shake is far worse than a stick car leaving.
not to insult you anyway Steve, but you broke in the gear right? is there a special process for break in after they were cryo'd and Mikronited? it was pretty chilly last night, did you warm the drive train up? i believe i read before that you did warm the car up. its is always possible that the gear was defective.
if you like driving the stick, try another gear. i have a 4:10 you can have if you want it. not what you need but you can get the car back out. the th400 is the way to go for less breakage. with what you have in your stick set-up you could sell it all and pick up a 400 with plenty to spare.
Hey Anthony,
Not insulted in anyway. The questions you brought up are logical. Every time I take the car out to make some hits I always do the following including this time. We only have a 35 minute drive so keep that in mind.
1. Warm the engine and driveline up on jack stands at the house before we leave.
2. once at the track I warm the engine up first to around 100 degrees of oil temp.
3. After the engine is warm I drive the car around the pits to bring the oil temp up to ~175 or so. This usually takes several laps around the pits. So there should be plenty of temp in the driveline by this point.
4. Go thru tech
5. Shut it down replace warmup plugs with a fresh set and go make a hit.
As for the break in of the gear....I am very strict about breaking in new driveline components, especially this time since I had a new clutch, and entirely new rear end. I put nearly 200 street miles on the car prior to this trip to the track to be sure everything was seated in. Hell, DTS said that due to the processing that I had done to the gears "there is no break-in needed. Go out and hammer it!". As much as I wanted to believe him, I still had to break in the clutch anyway.
I really do not know what I am going to due at this point, besides car DTS first thing tomorrow A.M.
