I thought it was getting shitty when the Line Loc switch was acting up on me and the burnout had to be re-done and couple times.....Well, that was until the launch.....

Sorry to those that had to wait for my turd to get push away on casters.

Vid of launch or what was supposed to be one

Pics of broken 4.88's from last year

Brand new rear end from DTS.....had all the fancy shit done to gears and stuff....Didn't even get to see it changing from a 4.88 to a 4.56 made a difference...well, I guess I did..the 4.88's lasted 20 or so passes...the 4.56 made it about 1 inch into A pass. :pissed:

Looks like the days of 5 speed are done (shit's just too damn hard on parts), so now a TH400 is going in this winter and possibly a little shot at well...we'll see.

Yea the track was deffinitly hungry earlier in the morning.

I think 5 or 6 cars broke within a 15 minute time frame.

Sorry to see your car was broke before you even got one run in.

Are those pro gears? I had the same problem until i switched to a pro gear.

corey

No unfortunately they are not, but they were cryo'd and Mikronited, which obviously didn't help for shit with respect to strength. We were hoping to avoid going to a pro gear which means changing over to a 9" setup. So this winter I have to decide between staying with the stick and adding a 9" with pro gears or going with a TH400 and just getting a new set of gears for my 8.8.

Damn, all the time money and effort and you don't even get one run.

What did it run before?

Yeah it sucks, but it is what it is. Last year with another broken gear (still functional though), it went 10 teens @ 134-135. the 4.88's had us trapping around 7900 RPM and the 4.56's would bring us in around 7500 which is just about dead on the shift RPM. So it should have picked up some, but who knows how much because there were other things that we upgraded as well, like taking 7 lbs out of the pressure plate and a total of 16 lbs out of the driveline. It should have gone a 9 something.

9" would solve your problems. I might have one for a fox body for sale :D

Thanks for the thought. Send me a PM with a price and pics. I have to start weighing out my options here. I know there are going to be a few people disappointed if we ditch the 5-speed, but the TH400 would be so much easier to race.

Im 100% positive if you put a pro gear in you wont be able to break it with the stick...

Wow...what brand gears are you using? I've never had any issues, hell there used to be a SSO guy who went 7's on an 8.8.

That sucks! the pics are way worse than I thought when u called!! keep the 5 speed and go with a 9"! shifting is part of what makes that car!!

most D/R cars use the 8.8 still. now the hit isnt as hard to the driveline as it is with a stick, but its still pretty violent. and the tire shake is far worse than a stick car leaving.

not to insult you anyway Steve, but you broke in the gear right? is there a special process for break in after they were cryo'd and Mikronited? it was pretty chilly last night, did you warm the drive train up? i believe i read before that you did warm the car up. its is always possible that the gear was defective.

if you like driving the stick, try another gear. i have a 4:10 you can have if you want it. not what you need but you can get the car back out. the th400 is the way to go for less breakage. with what you have in your stick set-up you could sell it all and pick up a 400 with plenty to spare.
