no oil getting up top. engine was flooded with fuel (due to bad coil pack)

Before i go tearing it apart, i was wonding if anyone had any knowledge of this specific engine and if i was on the right track..........

I think the problem is:
oil pressure relief valve ( located in the timing cover)

any info would be greatly appreciated....thanks

if the oil is full of gas (in the pan) from flooding it wont make oil preshure change the oil and crank it over see if it has preshure .

you did change the oil right?

if not do it and see what happens.

are the lifters making noise and your assuming there is no pressure or do you have a guage on it

If you are sure there is no pressure pull the pan off and look at the bearings they are probally worn out from the oil being full of gas. worn bearing = low oil pressure. pan has to come off anyways to get the front cover off you can pull that off also and take the pump apart and see how it looks.

changed the oil and lifters keep on tickin' ........ no oil under the valve cover. Lower end seems to be as quiet as can be.

drained out my new oil to prepare for timing cover removal and noticed that the oil looked as if i poured it in the pan. No way this oil was ran through the pump/ engine.....Saturn told me that they've seen the pressure relief valve's go bad. anyone ever heard of oil pump failure with this engine? It seems like it couldn't break easily.

only pumps ive seen bad were ones that has debris from spun bearings go through them.

pull the off and take the pump apart. take the spring out and put the relief in back in and see if it moves freely

make sure the housing in not gouged where the gears ride.

put the gears back in the way the came out they are chamfered on one side and will lock up if installed backwards

still pull a a couple rodcaps off and look at the bearing id be suprised if they are good still.

did you put a guage on it and verify no pressure?

I plan on pulling it apart tomorrow..........not sure why it was locked up, all i know is it wouldn't turn over at all and the crank shaft wouldn't move, put a new battery in it and jumper cables on it and it started to crank slowly...then it fired up easily.

usually i'd pull the engine and replace it with a good used one but the car only has 108,000 on it and seems to run like it's easily fixable.
