No more free TV

Now I know this country is going to hell. The citizens of this country have been able to watch television for the cost of a television. Then the greedy bastards in the media paid Congress to pass the law mandating that televisions had to be able to receive the digital signal that will be used in broadcasting the television signal in February, 2009. They(the cocksuckers in government) said not to worry, you will not need to replace your television. We will send you up to two coupons per household for converter boxes to convert the signal from digital to analog. These coupons have a value of $40. However, the converter boxes are projected to cost $70.

So now what you got for free is going to cost you money. The airwaves belong to us, we just grant television the license to use them. If they are going to tell us we need a converter box to receive this signal, why should we be expected to pay for something, that until these cocksuckers changed the law, cost us nothing.

This reminds me of the changes they(the fuckin' assholes in government) implemented in banking a few years ago. I pay for my own checks, they do not belong to the bank or the government. Who gave the government the right to tell the banks that they do not have to return property(the cancelled checks) that do not belong to them? I'll tell you who, it is the greedy pricks in the banking industry.

Wow, Don, Such strong language! The thing is, if you still own a TV that doesn't accept a TV signal, its time to upgrade anyways. Who evens a 4:3 TV anymore? 16:9 TV's have come down in price so much, you can even buy one at Walmart for a decent price.

Then you wont need to spend 70 bucks on a converter.

umm... the signal is still free... you just have to upgrade your equipment.

and who doesn't have cable/satellite anymore anyways?

I've been thinking about ditching it. SO much absolute garbage on cable TV. There are about 5 channels that are worth anything.

ESPN
ESPN2
Speed
Spike
Comedy Central

The rest is junk IMO.

It still receives a signal, at least until February, 2009. It won't after the changes that the cocksuckers in government made. Over the air television should not cost anything. We own the airwaves. Just because they have the license to use the airwaves doesn't mean they have the right to shove it up our ass.:banghead:

Not affected by this.

Besides, we were warned years ago that this was going to happen. Sucks for those not willing to PAY FOR TECHNOLOGY.

you can afford this:
2004 Corvette A4 LPE S/C, American Racing Headers, Blackwing Intake, Corsa Exhaust and tune-up by RoadRebel. 448 RWHP, 432 RWTQ

STFU and quit crying. Sheesh.

You forgot the Magnusson Supercharger ;) Just kidding. I see your point though. If we can afford high end sportscars and mods, we can afford a digital TV for a couple hundred bucks. Besides, watching in analog vs digital is a huge difference.

The point isn't the amount of the expenditure, it's the principle that the government in another wasteful effort to control our thought process has once again overstepped it's bounds and it's gonna cost people money. I don't have cable/satellite nor do I have any desire to have it, so why should I have the government tell me that I have to upgrade my equipment. If the Broadcast companies want to put out ONLY digital signals, then i guess at that point I'll make that decision. Instead, the gov't steps in and tells us that we have to do something for no good reason whatsoever.

Wow.... Let me get you guys some cheese to go with your Whine!

Digital will be better! It will free up the analog waves for other areas. Besides, they've been talking HD since the 90s. So if you haven't prepared, then its your own fault you'll be in the dark in Feb 09.

I made the choice about the car I drive. I didn't make the choice about whether television was going to continue to be free or not, the money grubbing pricks in gov't did. Vote the SOB's out, every one of them.

Well, its the FCC actually. Colin Powell's Son is the chair. I dont think they are voted in by the public

You have been told for how long this is coming? Put a couple dollars a week away for the converter and you'll have it covered. ;)

I know it's not about the money, I just figure there are bigger things wrong with our government that we should be complaining about. And it's creating new jobs for the companies making the converters! Of course they're made in China.(edit probably)

We have a winner!!!

If you're like my parents and too old/cheap to get a new TV becuase 'high definition doesn't look any better' :wtf:, do what they did and buy converter boxes at Best Buy for like $30

Now all I hear is "We get all these extra channels!"

I dont think its about what he can afford, as much as its just the principle of the matter.

There is no principal.

Dude, fuck the government with their switch from antiquated, subpar technology to new and better versions! Who would have figured, technological progress requires financial expenditures! And to think, they've only been warning us of the switch for the better part of a decade! How the fuck was I supposed to save thirty bucks in 7 years???? What an unreasonable amount of money to have to spend for the sake of technological progress!!!!!

58% of households have cable. 30% of households have satellite service. If you're in the 12% that uses an antenna like it's 1957 quit crying and move into the 21st century.

The government sucks ass for many reasons, this is not one of them.

p.s, it's not like this is a recurring fee. Just be prepared for the next time this happens in 2071.
