Nitto NT05R or BFG Drag Radial?

I posted in the "Chassis Shop" a couple weeks ago and only got a couple of responses. Some more opinions would serve me well.

Anyhoo, I'm pulling the car out today and need to get some new meats this weekend. Car is primarily going to be a street car with one or two trips to the track during the season.

With that said, what would you folks recommend? My primary goal is tire life, with a very close second goal of being traction. The car's only putting down ~325 to the wheels and on 275/40/17 E/T Streets right now.

I appreciate any insight.

I've learned Nittos last longer and work pretty good only after short burnouts... getting them too hot results in milking the tire which didn't work for me. BFG's work all the time and have broken many of vettes in my time on the street.. but don't last a month. Overall, NITTO.

I have had them all, mt, bfg, hoosier. the bfg is a great drag radial & Im going back to the bfg,s as soon as I melt off my hoosiers.

bfg's hook which i have right now, but im waiting for the new nittos to come out in 15 inch sizes, mmand fast fords did a write up on the new nt05 look for it i was impressed!

Nitto 555r

All the reviews I've read claimed this was the longest lasting drag radial with decent traction. Only problem, Nitto just released it's brand new "NT05R" drag radial, which is why I'm on the fence about it.

I don't think I want to rock the MT E/T Streets again, because I know I'll be burning through them on a monthly basis. I don't drive the car THAT much, but I want to take it cruising on the nice days that we do have. And like I said, I only plan to make a couple trips to the track this year. I ran the car last year and have not made any changes to it.

I caught that review and I was impressed too...just don't know about tire life. I probably won't be able to find anything out about that considering they were only released a few months back.

I got some regulars tires for my Camaro called "Nitto Extreme Performance Radial" or something like that. They had almost an identical pattern to the regular 555 drag radial, but it was much, much deeper, like a regular tire. Never had them to the track, but they were good street tires.

The 555 is just the regular all season version of the 555R (actually the regular 555 was out before the 555R). A car with 325whp is not going to hook with with non-dr's, esp if they are 300 treadwear.

I would go with the Nitto's, either the 555R or NTO5. I usually get ~ 10k out of a pair of 315/35/17 555R's, and I mean they are DONE, like completely bald.

I liked the BFG dr's I had, but they did not last very long, and the sidewalls very pretty mushy, so handling suffered substantially.

Check out the new Toyo DR, there reasonable on price and a sweet looking tread patter :), I personally just bought a set of MT DR's 335/35/18's and I can't wait to get them on. Only reason I bought the MT's was because they were in stock

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm now kicking around the idea of the 555R or the NT05R. Did you mean NT05R. or just the NT05? It's my understanding that the NT05 is the "street tire" where the NT05R is the drag radial. Big difference in treadwear:

NT05: 200
NT05R: 0

With that said, I've read the NT05 is about equivalent to the old 555R. I had no idea purchasing tires for this turd was going to be such a PITA.

Thanks everyone else for the posts as well....great feedback.

The NT05 is a badass looking tire. It won't last as long as the regular nitto drag. The treadwear is like 0 or 00. Regular Nitto is 100.
