Nissan R34 Skyline @ WW Motown lot

Rick, thanks for hosting the lot and letting in the crazy import guy. It was a good time, it was nice to meet some of you in person.

Yes, there are a lot of illegally imported Skylines in the USA, and all of them are subject to seizure. There is a group of them that were imported as shells through a company called Kaizo that are being forced out at this time. The investigation is against Kaizo for breaking the law, the cars are just getting caught in their wake. That's why owners are being forced to export instead of just straight seizures.

very few are legal here , that one in the pics was loopholed to be here as it doesnt have the proper fron bumper

That statement is mostly incorrect. The car has the standard front bumper from a GTR, but it does have the screen removed because the Nismo intercooler is too tight of a fit on the standard bumper. We are changing it to a Nismo bumper when there's a good opportunity to do the paint and it will have a different design. Nismo bumper gives enough room for the larger intercooler and the Nismo oil cooler that we've yet to put on the car.

Either way, the bumper design or modification was never part of the legalization process. Motorex imported about 100 cars and got federal paperwork on them (and CARB for the CA customers) while they were in business. Some cars were completed, and the US government extended some leniency to all customers that had a car in process when Motorex had it's registered importer license revoked. This means that various Motorex cars have different amounts of completed work, but all have their federal paperwork from the NHTSA showing that the car was legally imported into the US and released to the customer. We used this paperwork to register the car here in MI, and our (collector) insurance company would not insure the car until we showed the bond paperwork.

Motorex cars are the only Skylines in the USA with paperwork, and after accidents or owners moving out of the country, about 65 of them remain. There were 14 R34s legalized here in the USA.

Car is getting it's last airflow mod tomorrow and it's back to the dyno in a week or two. Not too much mechanically left to do.

Thanks guys!
