I bought a new setup about a year ago and this stuff just sits, so it's time for someone else to enjoy it. I'm selling my D300s, extra batteries, the battery grip, camera strap, and a 35mm 1.8 lens as a package deal. Take this off my hands for $400 obo. I have a damaged 12-24MM Tonika lens that I will throw in for free. I do not know how it was damaged as it was in working order when I put it in my safe last year. I have not checked to see how much the repair would be.
I'm having one heck up a time uploading photos from work. I'll update this post with photos later today.
I finally figured out a way around photos...LOL Here you go.

I may have found someone to take a look at the second lens that would go with this kit. When I find out if the lens can be repaired I'll update this thread.

Does the camera, or lens have a vibration damper? I am getting older and can't hold things as steady as I once did. Did you ever figure out what was wrong with the zoom lens?

Thanks.....grr

The camera and lens does not have vibration reduction.

Okay, can you get lenses with vibration reduction? I have a Nikon P510 and it has it, but it only has a fixed lens, but it is a decent camera. I'd like to upgrade a bit. Just sux getting older - Karma for my brother and I teasing my Grandfather when we were kids about shaking and being hard of hearing, now it has happened to us. My Grandfather was a good sport about it and used to yell at his hands for shaking! :)

Yes, a kit if the newer glass has VR built in. With the D300, you are able to pick any lens from the Nikon F mount family which, is not small. You can choose from third party entry level glass all the way to the Nikor professional level glass.

You may be surprised at how little you'll actually need it. The benefit of a larger sensor and the larger apertures is how much light the gather. You should be able to run shutter times that are quick enough that you'll never notice some shake. I am fairly shake as well and, I haven't used VR much until I get into my longer lens and some longer shutter times with it. And those blurry images from shaking are expecting when you get to longer exposures while hand holding.

Yes, you can. This is most certainly a step up from what you are using. And trust me I feel your pain with getting older.
