NHRA Accident

The track has more than 1/2 mile of paved shut down area past the finish line, plus the sand pit and the catch net. Im sure they never foresaw this possiblity.

Well its just insane that there would be anything at the end of the track even after a half mile that could stop a car literally dead in its tracks like that.

I just saw Scott in Joliet two weeks ago. Stood by his pits and watched him and his team at work. Never talked to him, even though I am sure he would have taken the time.

All the fuel cars today have a blue box (similar to a black box) that Ford and Force developed that will hopefully shed some light on what happened.

It's getting harder to watch NHRA racing, when the drivers keep dying. Russell, Medlin, and Scott just in the last four years. Koretsky and Bruce Allen's accident two years could have killed them both.

I may stop watching the Fuel classes all together and stick with Pro Stock and the sportsman classes.

I delivered a machine to Kalitta Air a few years back, and it was Scott that after over hearing me say to a guy that I was into drag racing, took me around the shop, let me sit in Doug's car, and Shirly's car because it was also there, then gave me a box full of used and signed pistons, rods, pictures.

Scott would will call me a couple times a month to get things for both the shop and himself because I could get them deals nobody else could, I looked at it as I was helping out the team and Scott and didn't bother me one bit, I liked doing it, it kind of made me feel like part of team, Scott knew he himself didn't have to call to get the deals because I would have given it to any of them, but he did it because we clicked and didn't want me to feel like he was putting me out by having someone else call, so he did it himself.

I can't stop the tears as they roll down my face because this man truley touched anyone that came in contact with him :(

Thank you Scott for the time you took to spend with me, and the laughs we shared, I will never forget it

RIP

Greg

Thats pretty nice you have memories like that!

RIP Scott..

This is terrible news. I'm a Huge fan of the kalitta's I have ALOT of friends and students that work at Kalitta air. I used to take students on tours there every now and then.

So, I've always rooted for the home team.

Very sad. For what it's worth he probably died instantly, if not from the initial explosion then from a broken neck or severe brain trauma when the car was halted.

He left a wife and two kids. :(

wow I've never seena anything like that....prayers and comfort to family and friends...horrific accident.

I don't know what to say. It was hard to watch that vid, and even harder to swallow its truth...

Fairwell.

Go with God my friend...

Looks to me like the chute deployed but it was just spinning like it was damaged or tangled with shrapnel, don't like the looks of that wall at the end either,

RIP

I never had a chance to meet scott but I always rooted for the home team, from reading around the forums he seemed like one heck of a guy. My mom was telling me a story about how my dad needed some slicks for the car and she had called the Kalittas' for some info and when scott called the shop my dad couldn't believe it. God speed Scott R.I.P. my prayers go out to the entire Kalitta family.
