New Tow Vehicle For My Boat

IMO that was the best front end/ body style of the super duty, The 08-10's grew on me and the current models dont do a whole lot for me.
 
Nice ride, nice boat too. Let's hear some info on that beast...

I'd do the head studs and head gaskets asap on the truck. It saves your time and money down the road. It would suck for them to go while towing the boat to the lake.
 
B Lee, just a 6.0 liter 4x4, has most options.

I'm not going to tear into it, I'll keep an eye on the deltas and install the IPR coolant filter....nothing more until needed. It only has 39k on it so im willing to take my chances. If I wanted to tear the truck apart I would have just bought one with 200k on it for half the money and then spend 4k on heads and gaskets etc. seems most heads are cracked and warped when removed.
 
I Agee, I was going to buy a low mileage 7.3 2002 vintage...but they have less power stock, loud as hell and same money as a rig 5 years newer...people are really proud of their 7.3.

No way I would chance a 6.4 and I really like this truck, wish it had the chrome package but I'm working on adding it.

"the beast" as in the boat, lol. twin 502s?

ARP headstuds for the 6.0, specially towing a boat like that.

Sweet ass setup man either way!
 
Ohhh, sorry. Has twin 496 Mag HOs, 425hp. Newer version of the 502. I know about the studs, again, not going to do it until needed.

I was looking for the same thing with a 7.3L....... they cost alot because its a great motor and one of the best for cooking oil conversions. (the way the fuel rails are run it keeps the oil hot) Great looking truck! :)

You will, set priorities and work towards them, good things will follow.

The Cummins, well, I would agree a great motor...arguably the best diesel. But the trucks are hideous!!

Sold my old 96 Cummins with 419,000 miles, never been apart. Original injection pump, injectors, turbo all that. They'll run till the dodge truck around it falls apart. lol
 
Nice truck. I always worry about the 6.0l problems with mine. I will eventually do the head studs but only have 65.000 miles on it so just drive with my finger crossed.

x2 on the arp studs, especially towing something like that it's not a matter of if but when. I see lots of 6.0's come thru the shop that get head gaskets and our tech always trys to sell the arp studs with them. If it ever goes and you need want a ford tech to do the work at half the cost of going thru a dealer PM me, our diesel guy does a lot of these on the side.
 
Crap. Nevermind. Guess I should have look through all the threads first!

I worked on a prototype military vehicle that used the 6.0 Navistar engine. We beat that thing hard. We were blowing them up at about 900 miles. We went through 12 of them. Hope you have better luck than we did.
 
Don't ever let it run low on fuel. Even close to the line is dangerous. I borrowed by brother's truck once and ended up having to put injectors in it because I ran it too close to empty.

Cool truck though.

I've read that also, seem temperamental but I like the power and most of all I like the style of the 05-07.

I bought an 05 6.0 to pull my 30 Scarab and within 3k miles, I was doing head studs and injectors... And the truck had 140k on it. Hopefully you won't have that issue! However when I did that, I did do a bigger Garret turbo, I highly reccomend!

I will have to bring my Scarab up to party with you guys sometime, she should run pretty good this year around!
