New guy to Motown Muscle...

Got-Busa?

Forum Member
Hello,

Currently live in TX but may be moving to the area. DBK recommended the site over on SVTPerformance and I've been meaning to start an intro thread just been to busy.

No car toys right now but have had many Mustangs in the past.

I've gotten into the 1-Mile racing when I have time with my other toy.

Looking forward to checking out the sites.

Any recommendations on an area to live (may be working in Romulus)?

Thanks,

Josh

Wow, that Busa is bad ass! Beautiful and serious. That one mile stuff sounds like a lot of fun. I wish we had a track up here for that.

Welcome to Michigan and Motown Muscle.

Welcome aboard, ride safe ! Post up some times of that Busa...

Another vote for not moving to Romulus itself, unless you want to deal with the constant airplane "noise pollution." If the sound of air traffic doesn't bother you, then disregard. Romulus is known to have some other issues throughout the years as well (ie - high crime), so it's probably not the first place you'd want to look at (guess that's relative compared to what you are used to?), unless you want to be REALLY close to your future place of employment.

What are you looking for? Farm/rural setting? Typical suburb atmosphere? Apartment living? Downtown/city life? The Metro Detroit area offers most of these living arrangements. However, you have to move further outwards from the city of Detroit and even some of the surrounding suburbs now to get that true farm/rural experience. That will lead to longer drive/commute times.

There's some areas sprinkled around throughout the suburban communites that can offer that semi-rural feel to it, but you might be constrained by restrictive local ordinances, etc. Places like New Boston or Huron Twp aren't too far off from Romulus and might be a good fit (?).

Be sure to post up the names of cities/townships you are considering moving to and people on here will let you know if they have had issues in that particular city/twp. Most of the suburbs are fairly decent surrounding Detroit, but some still have their issues, especially some municipalities that are geographically close to Detroit (ie - border towns; the "riff raff" can often spill over) - again, not ALL, but some.

Goodluck and don't be afraid to ask; you'll get some varying opinions and feedback...

If youre friends with DBK, than I highly doubt Romulus would be your residence of choice lol

Thanks everyone for the welcome!

Looking forward to it, just waiting for my house to sell here and official notification.

We don't really know where we want to live. I'd like to get some land (1-5 acres) but we are open to a community/neighborhood also. I guess it just depends what we find and what area works out. We have small kids that will be starting school in a few years so that's important also. Saline, Ann Arbor, etc. any good?

Glad to know (ask) what area to stay away from. What kind of taxes are normal for the area?

I drive about 35-40 minutes each way now so not affraid of a little travel.

The ECTA-LSR recently moved to Wilmington Airpark in OH which is only a few hours away. Next closest would be Loring Maine. I'll be there in Sept to race if anyone is thinking about driving down.

Welcome Josh!!
Based on the information above. I'd look around Carleton (48117). About 12 miles South of Metro airport. Yes, I'm predjudiced because I live here! But I live here because I was looking for pretty much the same stuff about 20 years ago. I commute to Dearborn everyday, and it's about 30 minutes. Romulus and Metro airport 15: Toledo, Ann Arbor, or downtown Detroit: ALL about 30 minutes. All freeway.
It's a farm town, no doubt! Several members on here live in this area. Tax wise, we are in Monroe County (Romulus is in Wayne). Our property taxes are substantially less than Wayne, Washtenaw, Oakland, or Macomb Counties. I have ~2800 square feet with a pole barn on an acre and pay less than $3K/yr.

Ann Arbor and Saline (Washtenaw County) are both good choices. Both known for good schools. (Better than ours!) Home prices and taxes are substantially increased. Ann Arbor can be a PITA because of U of M, but some may find that an advantage. PM me if you want contact info for a local Carleton realtor.

WTF!!!!!!'

Welcome to Michigan and Motown!

Depending on what you're looking for Plymouth has a lot of nice Dance Clubs.
Ferndale has a few decent Juice Bars.
If your not doing anything Sunday, Northville has quite a few Dog Parks.
Hope to see you around town. ;0 :watchinpo

Where in Houston are you now?

I moved from the Detroit area to Houston a little over three years ago.

It sounds like a work related move?

Is it simply monetarily related? PM me when you have a chance.

Yep, work related. We are on the north side of town.

I'll send you a PM.
