New F-150 drivetrains.....look out everyone

I agree with what your saying lets just start of with how uneducated most people are about cars. Your gonna get some people in there looking at a new truck and all there gonna see is the milage and tow rating, but the truck, throw on a 5ft wheel to tow there camper and head out west through the mountains trying to keep the cruse set on 65 and have the motor burn up. Get pissed off at Ford.for there crappy motor as they get on every fourm and cry. And I've seen it done many of times. I have a neighbor who melted down his chevy this past summer doing the exact same thing. And you know the sales guys know nothing about these cars now a days. I had one guy try telling me the new 5 liter is just like the one in my fox...

The only two engine that are Flex Fuel (e85) are the 3.7 and the 5.0

That was around a 2 mile track with speeds around 35-55 up and down hills, but I would say those are gonna be more highway numbers because we were told to "take it easy"

Because they were showing us how well a V-6 could do against a V-8. We compared to the 5.0 also. It's was more a of a "guess what our little V-6 TT" can do

Probably because they were trying to keep the comparison engines close in displacement to make it more fair.

I know there are a lot Ford folks (employees) that have had to be tight lipped on the advancements of these new drivetrains, but I got to drive them yesterday. All I can say is DAMN!!!

I will be for first to admit I doubted the ability of a 3.5 V-6 Ecoboost to tow what a V-8 could. Well after yesterday, I have no doubt that my next F-150 will have the Ecoboost. This isn't the same 3.5 in the Flex/Sho/MKT. This 3.5 was designed exclusively for the F-150 and they hit a home run!

I towed a 6500 pound trailer with a Toyota 4.6, Chevy 4.8, Dodge 4.7 and the Ecoboost. The Ecoboost DESTROYED all of them. They rate it at 11,300 which is the same as the 6.2. The worst for towing power was the Chevy. It was very loud, clunky and didn't shift well. The Toyota flexed like a rubber band in the turns. The Ram did decent.

Then we did some real world driving (without the trailer) and we got 26.4 miles per gallon, the highest in our group 27.8.

Lastly we did an 8th mile drag (my best light was .501 the rest were in the high 5's except my first which was a sad .765) during the drag test the ecoboost tore everything up.

For and extra $750-$1750 (depending on trim) it's well worth it.

For the Race Truck guys you can get an Ecoboost in a Reg cab, but it has to be 145" wb and requires the HD payload and max trailer towing package if it's a "stripper" XL. The XLT only requires the 145" wb.

Oh and after sitting in the back of all the Crewcab trucks, only the Ram could come close to matching the comfort of the Ford. The GM was piss poor for room.

Oops I almost forgot to mention the other three engines.

3.7 (Not the same as the Mustang engine) V-6 is far better than any offering from Dodge, Toyota or Chevy. 302hp 278tq. Only the offering from GM (4.3) can come close to towing, but it falls short by 900lbs. This will be the standard engine on XL-STX-XLT

5.0 (Not the same as the Mustang engine) will be an option on the XL-STX-XLT ($1000). Standard on the FX2/FX4, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum. This has 360hp 380tq and will tow 10,000

6.2 is only optional on the Lariat and Platinum and standard on the Raptor. It's got 411hp and 434tq an will tow 11,300 (same as the Ecoboost)

I just don't understand why they would bring out the bottom of the barrel for Chevy and Dodge. Not saying the 5.3 or Hemi would beat the Ecoboost but it would at least be a fair comparison.

Trust me this is something they do all the time. I used to work for a company that built/delivered/took care of the cars for these drives. When the Explorer came out they didn't dare bring a GM product because it beat it. When the focus came out they compared it to the Neon because it made it look even better than it already was. In the 4 years i worked there we did tons of dealer and fleet shows and all the competitor cars were bottom line and even excluded certain OEM's because they simply had a better product. It happens all across the board.

Oh and when they do press releases...those vehicles go through a very thorough squeek and rattle repair/analisys.

Yea, there all sweet motors from Ford. I actually work at the Ford Romeo Engine plant so I know alot about the new 6.2 but I strongly question what Ford is saying about the ecoboost towing, well scratch that..what I I'm truly wondering about is the longevity of that motor. Your normal person might not realize it enough and buy it planing to haul every.weekend and get pissed when then burn it up. I come from the old days where the saying "there's no substitution for cubic inches" ruled

It's a tough engine and i bet will put up with higher than normal towing needs. Watch in the coming months as ford stats to stuff it into races in teh desert and other over abusive situations to prove it's durability...and i'm not even a Ford fanatic! (I drive a GMC HD)
