i just bought a 2003 dodge stratus R/T 2 door the other day , the other day it got stuck in 3rd gear and the N light was flashing , ( i know it was stuck in 3rd because it has the auto stick feature that tell me what gear im in ) , i had auto zone pull the code that it set and its a P0734 wich tells me

check other service codes 1st ( no other codes )
TSS error ( trans speed sensor )
poor electrical conection
internal transmission fault

the codes states that theres a problem in the 4th gear the VSS input doesnt match the VSS output

i have both VSS pulled right now , 95bucks for one and 119 for the other , its kinda an expensive guess to tell wich one is actually the problem , any one know if theres 1 that fails more comon that the other or is it just a guess ? ......... can anyone local give me a hookup on these parts for cost so i can buy both and not break my pockets ?

oh yea , also when i shut the car off for a period of time its like it resets itself and drives normal for about 5mins then gets stuck in 3rd again with the flashing N light , trans surges and when its actually working semi normal it revs a little weird to switch gears , car ran fine up untill this happened , started it up one morning and then the problem appeared ..... trans does not slip either

Dude you buy some of the most messed up cars ever
yea no shit lol , it drove fine untill this , on the test drive i beat the ever living piss out of it and drove it like a rental car and it held up just fine , one day i just started it up and had this issue

I will probably never buy another Chrysler product again , I like the car but damn

All Chryslers are known for FWD trans problems. I sold hte wifes caravan with 100K on it, just so i didn't have to deal with it. Granted her's was 99% highway driving, and it never gave me an isue, but i wasn't waiting for one. I bought it with 27K on teh clock, knowin an older couple had it and dealer maintained it. Other wise i avoid FWD chryslers. SHoulda posted a "how bout this car" like the others you were looking at.

i got a pretty good deal on it so im not to worried about it , im honestly probably going to put a few bucks into it and re-sell it

can anyone local get these parts at cost for me ? it doesnt look like i can track down wich one is bad so im probably going to have to buy both , i just dont want to break my pockets doing so ...... if someone can get me a hookup i have a 302 block and heads i could give ya

did the speedo work when it messes up? if yes, replace the input speed sensor, the one closest to the engine

and I would bet that there are at least 4 codes set in the trans controller due to this problem

solenoid pack mounts right to the top of the trans, right under the trans line connection, in fact, you were right by it when you replaced the sensors

but, have someone look into the problem before spending the money

and no, its not "basically the valve body", it is a single unit that combines the shift solenoids, and the pressure sensors all in one unit, the valve body is inside the trans pan, where 95% of them are

the code i got yesterday says

p0734

gear ratio error in 4th gear , the ECM has detected that the trans input does not match the trans output RPM
check other serive codes 1st ( autozone told me there was no other codes )
TSS error ( replaced input and output )
poor electrical conection
internal trans fault

you'd probably save yourself a lot of money by just taking it to a shop and having it fixed/diagnosed. Your throw parts at it and never quite get it fixed approach hasn't been working out for you lately ;)
