New addition to the family

There are a couple ways to stop the nipping.

Both work well and it depends on the dog which works best. You can either give them something appropriate to chew on. So when they nip. Stick a toy in their mouth. or as JScottGT said do the high pitched yelp.

Nipping issues happen alot when pups are taken from the litter too early. That is why it is recommended that puppies stay with mom and litter mates until at least 8 weeks.

Congrats on the pup!

As for the nipping you just need to keep reminding her that it is not acceptable. I used to use a 'spanker'. It was just a rolled up magazine I kept handy. They would get a tap on the nose or on the rear if they got out of line. Along with a stern "NO". Soon I didn't have to tap at all. Just bring out the spanker and they would know. Now it never seems to come out. They are pretty well trained. But consistency is key. Keep to your rules and make sure the family sticks to them. And the dog will learn. They want to please their owner.

And just to clarify, it is only a tap. Not an all out smacking or beatdown. The dog only needs something to break their concentration and refocus their attention that what they are doing is wrong. A gentle tap with a stern voice will do the trick. I do not condone beating an animal.

Congrats, great looking pup.
Another tip to stop the nipping is to yelp in a high pitch back at her whenever she tries. That is the typical response they would get from other dogs as unacceptable behavior. Tony's method also works real well, but be sure it is just a tap and not a smack.

I wasn't saying that in a bad way or anything. It is just common in pups that leave early. A lot of people aren't aware that puppies should stay until a certain age, so I figured I'd share :D
