Need to have shed/ garage built on property. Stand alone.

Looking at building a something to store a car and have room left over for some storage. Thinking at least a car and half, sized.
Any good leads as to who to use?
Not sure whether to build a "shed" for tax purposes, or just do a garage.

I have heard about local shed places that will just drop off a kit to build, or is just having one built from scratch better?

Anyone go through this, that can share some knowledge?
I figure I am looking at $7000-8500 on storage fees if I don't end up building. I was hoping with a budget around that sized I could build something nice that could make a sweet garage later.

Liogghios Building very good buddy of mine. Just did a add-on to my shop 10'x26 for right around 1000 no cement tho yet. His frist name is Nick and his number is 734-772-4084 or [email protected]. just tell him Jeff sent you.

The building size will automatically determine how it is viewed. Most City/Township building codes only allow for 200sft before a full permit application and fees are required. I suggest you check with Farmington Hills before you get recommendations for a builder.

I would definitely check the city ordinace first. You may just be better off doing a garage cause I believe the permits and inspection fees etc. are going to be the same if you build a large "shed" or a garage of any type. I can 99% guarantee anything you build big enough to fit a car will require permits and plenty of other rules set by the city. Also they may evaluate your property taxes as an improvement whether you build a shed or a garage.

If you add a drain in case you want to wash your car inside the garage, put a skimcoat layer of concrete over the drain cover, otherwise you open yet another can of worms.

Menards and Hansons have polebarn type buildings available and decent prices. I have priced out a barn through both and they were pretty comparable and would deliver the supplies to your worksite. If you want to have it built, do a search. ccbchevy recenty had one built and likes his contractor that put it up.

I just had a few quotes done on a 28 x 40 garage. THey ranged from $30,000 all the way up to $60,000. I ended up going to a lumber yard, and they wanted $6200 in material and $5900 to come frame it on site. Concrete is the big hit. Even though you are building a small garage you need to put in a 42" footing with re-rod.

If you need any plans or info let me know.

Geoffs right, if it's a stand alone shed, the Common 12 x 12, most cities recommends a rat wall with the shed pad. Depends on what you plan on doing with it.
If you tell the city your putting a car in there, they might required footings.
Check with your local city for codes

Okay, so just got a quote for a 20x20 for 17,000 with all the bells and whistles, or a 16x20 that doesn't have as much cement, or electrical for 11,000.
