my sis has a t-bird supercoupe. she has the 5 speed in it. she lost 5th and reverse. being a z28 6speed guy i'm thinking broken shift fork or the pin came out for the fork or something. she had some kind of linkage replaced when she had the clutch done a few months ago.

do those have manual linkage on them? maybe a problem there?
is that the same t5 foxbodys use?
who makes the trans and does anyone know where i can find a manual?

prompt help would be highly appreciated. i'm at the library since my internet is off.

thanks a ton
mike

I am almost positive that is the same T5 used in the fox bodys, it is a toploader trans. Id make sure the clutch is adjusted properly, if it is you may have lost your synchro in 5th. check your shifter mechinasim too and make sure its functioning properly on that side.

Tremec.Com.....

The 4 cylinder and V8 T-5's are a little different....

Diff Gear ratios....
Piliot Diam. are also different.... .590 for the 4 cylinder and .668 for the V8
Inputshaft on the 4 cylinder is .230 longer....

Can ya interchange em?? Yes....If ya get the correct Piliot bushing....

Matt...Thanks for informing me anytime someone has a Trans issue...

No problem. I know you enjoy using your wealth of knowledge. You are pretty much a self help line for Manual or Auto transmissions.

well here's the deal.

the trans is an m5r2. 5/rev syncro assembly is toast as is all the brass. word has it southern gear is the place to go. with any luck i'll get it all fixed up.

get this, ford, RTP, and a trans shop all told me i'm SOL finding parts for this puppy so hopefully southern gear pans out.

thanks for the help guys.

It is not a T-5 at all. It is an M5R2 or something like that. I don't know anything else about them though. You might look around on tccoa.com or sccoa.com I guess would problaby be better.

Damn, I was too slow. Already figured out what it is. Ask around on SCCOA as to where to find parts though. I'm sure those guys would know what's up.

Damn dude, sorry to hear.. good luck finding those parts!!. Would a T-5 work in the car if you needed to replace the trans? maybe with the proper bellhousing

The shifter location of a T-5 when put in a T-bird is under the dash. It can be made to work in a T-bird but takes some fab work. I'm sure it's far cheaper and easier to fix the m5r2

no luck on parts yet. still trying, i put a post up on sccoa. either parts or go auto but i really don't want to do an auto conversion for a DD car for my sister, she'll probably trash it this winter, she's never had a rear wheel drive car with power before. i'm gonna recommend she sell it whether we find parts or not. but then who knows i may end up with it..

what idiot decided to mount the driveshaft above the gas tank on those cars?! what a pita that was, combined with the dual cat exhaust it was a pain.
