I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch, but the odds are severely in my favor.
GM has called me every 4-6 months for the past 3 1/2 years since I interviewed with them multiple times and did their assessment testing. Every time they said they had a position open but it was only temporary. They asked if I wanted it or if I was holding out for permanent full time employment. Having had a full time job this entire time I told them nicely no thank you, I am only interested in permanent full time employment and no temporary or part time.
Well, this has gone on for YEARS. They called me again in December and this time asked to verify my contact information as well and said I'd be hearing from them again.
Last week I get a call telling me a permanent full time position has opened and they had me go to their medical center at the plant for a physical and drug screening (hair test). I've never done any sort of drug. Hell, I've never even had a cigarette  Just the occasional beers.
Anyways, as most everyone knows, I daily drive a Civic from my days of working at the Honda dealer. I love the car for it's reliability, low costs, and ease of repairs when they do arise. This is not a car I would be gaining much favor with working for GM.
So here is what I am looking for.....
HAS to be domestic. Bonus points for a GM vehicle.
I'd like to get decent mileage. No low-teens.
If it's a car I prefer stick shift.
Needs enough space or a backseat/cargo area big enough for my two dogs.
Age isn't a concern.
Price, I'd like to be between 3-5 grand.
RWD is a bonus as well.
Ideas?
I was looking at 99/00 Tahoes & Yukons, Crew cab F150s, extended cab silverados, crew cab S10s...but not they're getting harder to find for a steal. If I could find a Cobalt sedan with a 5spd I'd be alright with that...... I'll be ~11 miles from work.
I'm also kinda of considering maybe a Saturn Ion Redline --- it looks like they've come down in price a bit. The rear area would be big enough for my dogs to sit back there it looks like.. Better gas mileage than everything else I've looked at.
