Need help with stolen car details

So we had our 2008 Lincoln MKX stolen and I had some questions on how someone might start it with no key. Any ideas? The police seem to think that someone had a key to it, but I know that isn't possible. I can tell you that it has an aftermarket remote start and unlock. The car was recovered and showed no signs of forced entry. It also has a keypad unlock on the door, and the code wasn't anything that could be easily guessed.

Actually let me clarify. The dipshit that took it put it back where he found it. So technically you could call it a several day joy ride. He left receipts and his work time sheet in it, so the police have already paid him a visit. I'm just wondering how someone would have started it with no key. We were out of town when it was taken and the keys to the car were with us in Florida. We had an oil change done the day we left for vacation so we know that the guy took it on a 25 mile cruise. Nothing was stolen out of it either. Pretty fucking weird.

Did you leave it in a lot that rents our cars? Seriously....saw it on the news.

IF they had the hookup, pretty sure they could get a key made by VIN.. I know my buddy works at a Lincoln dealership and he was just telling me the other day they are getting more strict on verifying a key to be made but he said there is still a way around it.

Um yeah. I'm sure I could get a key made for any newer vehicle. And use an ids to program the new key. I would recommend going to a dealer and having them check all tics, have them erased and reprogram your keys. Of course if you have a "factory" remote start, that will also have to be programmed.

This was my guess too. I'll have to check and see what brand it is.

Only a hood shop or idiot do it yourselfer would completely bypass it , and the brand doesn't matter unless you gave the shop that did it a completely cut and programmed key for the old school bypass and they knew where it was hidden that's not the remote starter . The remote starts only send the transponder signal and wont turn the actual ignition to unlock the steering wheel. It also will shut down when the brake is pressed . If its dealer installed it should shut down when the engine is revved as well. Either way an audit of the cars ignition will tell them how many keys are cut for the car

Yep. Verified. My son works at a Ford dealer he said they can make a key with the VIN.

Yes they can, but the transponder system can't be programmed to recognize the new key without both oem keys or a dealer tech programmer on hand. Unless, of course the aftermarket remote start was wired to bypass the transponder.

Actually I can't get over the fact that he put the car back! Crazy...

Did the cops tell you who this guy was? Or did you find his name on anything? I would think that he knew that you were going to be out of town and wouldn't miss the car. Pretty fucking weird is right!

Yes, with the dealer programmer. My son said that in his shop there aren’t many people with access to the database that has the key information and even less people with access to the programming tools needed. He said someone off the street would have to bring in some pretty compelling evidence of ownership before a key would be made like that. And they want the car there too. This guy had to have some hook ups...</SPAN>

Does the mks have a key like my sho, where it's a push button start, and the key just needs to be in the vehicle?
