Ok....some one school me on this.I am measuring what length push rods I need.I got my lifters installed, both exhaust and intake are on the base circle.I know you put the adj. rod in place and adjust it up to the rocker.I do not have adjustable roller rockers, just the factory stamped rockers. When they are torq'd down to 28 ft lbs, I know you want like .060 pre-load on the hydrolic lifter, but should there be a gap between the rocker tip and valve tip or no?If so how much? Does it matter that these are BRAND new lifters nad might not be pumped up 100%> I have always had valve train noise from not doing it the right way, and I would kinda like to solve that this time:flashboob..please help trying to get it out for cruise night on friday

take a picture of the problem. We are obviously dealing with a SBF with factory pedestal mount rockers correct ? It is possiable that the rocker slots are to short.

Snap a few good photos of the problem I can help you but the description of the problem is a bit esoteric without pictures.

Yup, 4.2 V6 ford.Same lifters as a 5.0.Here is a pic.See the gap between the pedastool base and head?

That is where it is when you tighten the bolt and the pushrod no longer spins freely.Obviously the pushrods were too long and I need shorter ones.It also wore the inside of the rocker arms where the pedastool sits.

I think it might be time for an adjustable valvetrain. How does the rocker tip mark the valve tip ?

rub the valve tip with a black sharpei put the rocker on run the engine through a few revolution Cranking with starter or ratchet whatever is easiets and lets see a picture of the swipe. It could be the pushrod is to long but when I look at the rocker angle it look good to my eyeball. that doesn't mean shit BTW LOL.

Lets get a swipe at zero lash on the valve tip and see where the rocker is riding. That will tell us if your too long or to short.

Now unless the valve are longer then stock Most pedsastal system should setup by putting the rocker tip on the valve tip and tightening the arm down. Then you measure for the pushrod with the arm down and check with a swipe test. Depending on the tip height of the valves though this relationship may change.

Good news is that it should not be a big deal to add hieght to the rocker if it needs height. Just get some SBF rocker shims and get started with the shimming. Use the adjustable pushrod for what its for. Adjust it.

Yeah, everything is stock except the valve springs.Stock valves, rockers, ect So the rocker arms dont have a roller tip

Ok.So one side was all around 7.1000 and the other side was right around 7.0875. Should I order all 12 and shim 6, -or- order 6 of each?Or is the .0125 even worth worrying about?

Ok so something is wrong here. Either the machine work is piss poor or the the heads and block deck surfaces are screwed up. Not much we can do about that now but you can buy 12 different pushrods if need be.

Where is the swipe pattern ? Lets see what we got for a contact swipe. No reason to tear up parts again.

BTW .125 is a huge amount of pushrod difference. Something is not right. My guess is that the tip hiehgts of the valve are wrong. Has either head had any valvejob or repair work doen to the valve seats ? If so those heads need to be fixed. Sinking a seat .125 could cuase this problem. I would be pissed at a seat sunk that much though.
