Need help choosing cam and heads

I have a 93 foxbody and I was wondering what the best cam and heads would be for a street car. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

What kind of power levels are you looking for? Do you plan on more mods in the future? Makes sense to do a hci to set you up for later mods

What kind of money are you trying to spend? do you have high port monees? or GT40 turboswirl monees? big difference there....

If you are using stock pistons I would use AFR 165 or Edlebrock performer 5.0 with a E cam with some good rocker arms. BEST ADVICE KEEP IT SIMPLE!

What intake? What exhaust? What mass air meter? What size thottle body? Etc. What is your ultimate goal? A dyno number, a quarter mile time? Seat of the pants feel?

Check out stuff on sites like Corral.net (you'll find about every combo ever run at one point or another) in the 5.0 Tech section. Lots to read there...many folks will discuss different combos and resultant performance/driveability/etc.

Good luck.

Like everyone else said it depends on your ultimate goal and your wallet.. Just keep in mind whatever you go with everything else should match. Intake, exhaust, throttle body, injectors and rear gear all come together as a package.

Twisted Wedges. You can get quality used ones cheap, and they will clear all reasonably sized duration cams with stock pistons. They'll make more power than AFR 165's, and are actually closer compared size wise to AFR 185's. I'm a believer they will out perform AFR 185's as well, not to mention 185's won't clear with stock pistons. TW intake ports CC less than 185's, BUT due to the design of the TW relocating the intake valve, the intake ports are shorter than inline heads, and act like they are a larger head.

Cam: either run an early stock H.O. cam from like an '87-'88 5.0 with 1.72 rockers if you want a good performer that doesn't make a lot of noise and won't affect MPG. E Cam or Crane's equivalent if you want a slightly better performer with some lope.

TW's and E cam's have proven time and time again to work very well in combination with each other.

Don't change the cam....the stock cam is very good. I had a set of box stock TW, 1.7s, gt40 with the lower ported, 65mm TB, 24lb injectors, pro m 77. With a t5 it would go 12.1X all day. 3050lbs. That was 100 years ago, there is a lot better stuff now and my suspension was not ideal either. With a 4.10 I think 11.9X would have been doable.

Good luck with your project.

Thanks pwraddr. I amlike helping buildbuild this car. If anyone has a set of heads or intake that will work well for him please pm him. We are doing a nitrous shot for this year but forced induction over winter. More than likely on stock shortblock. Goals are a solid street car. Occasionally at the track. With a nice set of springs will his cam work well for f.I......like 10 psi on a turbo setup?

With which cam, a stock H.O. cam and 1.72's? It's one of the best camshafts you can run in a stock block with a turbo!

from my learning experience make sure you never have to buy a part twice.... what does that mean? Dont buy the $300 part when the $500 part is much better if you plan on keeping the car and investing money into it always use quality parts!!!

X's 2 Im buying alot of parts twice because my projects going much faster than I originally thought

Are you planning on taking this to the street to hustle some money or just a cruiser to take to the track. Hustler engine= Stock 5.0 with E303. Ported GT40 or gt40P iron head. Hidden fogger plumbed into bottom side of intake. Single nozzle in front of throttle body does not even need to work just needs the appearance. A friend went faster than 10.99 with this set-up years ago. If he burned the motor up he would just go get another used short block from somewhere and slap it back together. Minimum investment and maximum wow factor.
