Need A SBF guru

I need help planning out my powertrain for next season and Im doing this on a tight budget, i need to make the most power for the least amount....


I have thus far


stock 84 gt motor thats short block is in good shape and heads are off, I want to spend 600ish on the motor before this may...

I already have a victor jr 302 intake manifold (carb)
holley 650dp mech sec. model #4777
holley red electric pump


taking this into account and the fact that its a non hydro block (dont mind at all) what would I do next
 
so the whole 600 can go to the motor? If so .. Find some used forged pistons, and a nice solid roller matching bump stick w\springs
 
oh hell no.. i though u had heads.. E5's are junk! ummm.. Try to find some dart windsor jrs. used for cheap. I didnt think 84's had forged pistons though i though it was 89-91
 
first forged piston was 85, first year roller motor last year carb, this was only in the HO, not the cfi combo. 5 speed=carb with roller motor forged pistons, auto=cfi, flat tappet cam, cast pistons.
 
84 should just be a cast piston unless someone put a forged piston in it??

I've used early(69) 351w heads before and they're better then the stockers that's for sure. I wouldn't put any money into them though since aftermarket used heads can be found for a decent price.
 
rob (91notch) has them and i belive he wants to get rid of them. if i picked them up I would likely take them to mark hayosh at API and have him work them over with some springs and whatever porting he can do in house. along with some crane 1.6 rckers and that would be it.

so i guess the point of the thread is what can i make the most power with for 600 heads and cam wise ?
 
my old motor took 150 i couldnt tell you how many times and 180 a few and 200 i think three or four times..

Prob put 30 bottle thru it in one summer.. it was a cast 302..

I dont suggest you do that if u want it to last thou..

I got some sr's i need to get rid of cheap.. but they need a lil work.. come with new guide plates, studs and roller rockers just missing one rocker..
 
i was really hoping you guys would say go with ported 69/70/71 windsor heads and a certain cam and spring combo with new lifters and some 1.6 rockers
