Need a front sway bar repaired

The front sway bar on my grandpas Buick la saber cracked in half and am looking for someone with a MIG welder that could weld it back together. I would do it but i have been out of work for the last few months due to a car accident. This is a very easy fix. The damaged aria is easily accessible through the passenger side wheel well. Please pm me with pricing.

Thanks

You cant weld it its spring steel... replace it.

Yea, I figured this was the issue, I just thought someone might have some method i don't know about. So the heat would cause fatigue and dramatically change the spring rate? Or it wont accept the weld at all? I thought spring steal can be ark welded using a 30 electrode? It has been a few years since my welding class but i thought i remember my teacher telling us that?

That would be arc welding, not mig, you would have to bake the bar and even then its a gamble... def not worth the effort for a 20 dollar part from the j yard

I'd check with one of the places that sells GM parts below dealer price, like Scoggin Dickey or Pace parts. I bet that bar is $75 from GM.

What year is the car? I have a buddy with a GP that broke a front bar, and another with an Intrigue that did the same thing. Both were pretty easy to replace and the bars were less than $100.

I do not recommend welding a swaybar back together, it'll just break again unless you heat treat it.

It is a 1997

Thank you all again for your extensive knowledge!

Try parts galore. They have one on the west side now. On warren, just east of livernois. probably get one there for @ $20 or so.

They are not as cheap as you think. I wanna say 125 from Gm if i remember right. Most respectable salvage yards will not sell you a sway bar. They consider it a liability. i tried to get one for a customer on several different occasions and was told that by different places.

I'm not sure what yards your going to but I've bought tons of them for several yards locally.

If you tell them its for a"customer" they assume your with a shop and they'll be leary to see you anything cuz of liability..
