ok i got my rearend narrowed 3 inch on each side. i know i need a 6in backspacing rim.

but if i get a 6.50 in backspacing rim an put a .5 inch spacer in there will it be the same then as a 6" backspacing?

i have 5/8 studs so not worried about strength

I might be missing something here, but are you sure on the backspacing?

I would think it should be less than that. Lets say you had stock width rear end it would use a 6.5 to 6.25 backspace on 10"wheel. Narrowing by 3" per side your new wheel would have to be about 3.5 to 3.25.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Dude you probably don't need a 6.5" backspacing. You probably only need 4" on a 10" wheel and 6" at the most on a 12" wheel. Maybe even less. How far is the flange from the lower control arm mount? Or did you move the lower control arm mount?

Mine was only narrowed 2" and I use 4.5" bs with a 10" wheel and 6.5" bs with a 12" wheel.

I believe my rear end is narrowed 4inches each side and I have a 10 in rim with 3in back space. I'd like to use a 12in rim, so what back space would I need?

I narrowed mine 1.5 per side and have 7.5 b.s. on a 12 inch rims- simple math would tell me you want around a 6 inch backspacing. You might be able to even add a spacer with that setup- I know I could with mine.

with a 12 inch rim keeping the back of the rim in the same spot as the 10" you'd use a 5" backspace.
wrong, backspacing doesnt change based off of wheel width. backspacing, is exactly what it sounds like, the amount of space behind the flange. if you have 3" now, youll need 3" again, unless you have more room behind the tire currently and you wanna tuck it in more

No, he was actually correct. This question is regarding a mini-tubbed mustang. If the wheel and tire fit properly with a 10" wheel and 3" backspace, he would use a 12" wheel with a 5" backspace if he wanted to run a 12" wheel. My car uses a 10" with a 4.5" backspace or a 12" with a 6.5" backspace. Both position the wheel and tire in the right place under the car.

Actually I guess were both wrong depending on the circumstances. If your car cannot fit larger than a 3" backspacing and you want a 12" rim from a 10", youve gotta go forward. If you want the outer lip to remain in the same position and youve got plenty of room behind the wheel, then yes, youd add to the back. Its not cut and dry though. My car needs a 15x10 with a 7.25 backspacing. If I wanted to run a 15x12, a 9.25" backspacing wouldnt fit

Again, we're referring to a mini tubbed mustang. There is plenty of room in the back, that's what the question is regarding. And a mini tubbed mustang normally sits low enough that you can't come out the sides.

Well then JP should rephrase his question, because he doesnt NEED a 6" backspacing wheel. He actually needs a 6" or 6.5" Frontspaced wheel.

LOL...... WTF is that????

BTW, Thanks Raj...For turning me onto this post....

well they dont sell them like that, but when you subtract the backspacing from the overall width, you get what Im calling frontspace, there is no real term for it that I know of, but its all I can think of calling it to try and help JP get the proper spaced wheel. This thread is full of childish nitpicking. fuck it, buy whatever wheels you guys want, hope they fit

So I guess to answer JP's original question, yes, if you put a .5" spacer on the back of a 6.5" backspaced wheel, it will fit like the same wheel with a 6" backspacing. Backspacing is the measurement from the rear mounting pad to the edge of the inboard flange. whatever spacer you stuff inbetween just shortens up that distance

I would double check what backspace you need. Stock fox can fit about 6.5" before it hits the inside of the wheelwell. With an axle narrowed 3" on each side, you could fit 3.5" backspaced wheels in stock wheel wells, if your minitubs gave you an additional 3" of room, then youre back to having the same area behind the hubs as stock. I dont know how much youve gained from adding the tubs, so I cant tell you what backspacing youll be able to fit.

But yet you keep posting lol. I've got a set of universal 5 lug moon wheels if you wanna pimp them.

id just get hounded even harder if i let it go. I felt at least maybe someone in the thread could give jp a legitimate answer

Yea I was thinking more of keeping the front lip where it was originally going with a wider rim then the back. Usually have more room in the back when you mini tub it. Never really gain any room on the front side...
