Is it worth going to this year?
There are some big names not participating this year (Jaguar, Land Rover, Bentley, Maserati, Rolls Royce, Tesla, and BMW Mini)

I'm sure I'll still go, but it's a little crazy that all these companies won't be there. My father in law went yesterday and said it's the worst show he's seen in years

I'm not going. The recession killed concept cars and despite record car sales in the last few years the concept car has not come back. I used to love looking at that stuff.

No Porsche either.

Not going this year. If I could get in during press days it MIGHT be different, but there just isn't anything there this year that I'm willing to fight a crowd of people off to see.

It sounds like you're trying to get your hopes up for an auto show and the excitement that it could bring.

:) Maybe go see a movie instead. I stopped going to the NAIAS because you could sit in a $50k truck but you could not sit in a $50k porsche or bmw... wtf.. Why can't I sample some german leather seats at a giant auto show in America??

I haven’t been to the show in years, but when I did go,
I went 5 years in a row, I went on the “press days”.

The press days are the only & best way to enjoy the NAIAS.
Instead of the public days of 100,000 people, press days were
only 5,000 folks – and you got TONS of perks, great food,
swag and one year I even went on a test drive with Al Unser Sr.
in a H1, those days I believe are gone forever.

Oh, did I mention it was also all free? I know, I’ve been spoiled!

It does seem the Detroit show is continuing to fade away.

The NAIAS is a big event in the industry. I agree the preview and Red Carpet days are the best to attend. Typically I go for work, this year I'm pulling my son out of school early to take him down next week and avoid some of the crowds. Pixar is debuting a Lighting McQueen vehicle for the Car's 3 moving coming out later this year. My wife has been sending me pics from today's preview. A lot of big announcements are still made at NAIAS, the new model Camry was revealed earlier this week.

All the automakers listed above not attending, combined account for less than 10% of the North American vehicle sales. I'm sure there sales play role in making decisions on how they justify their budgets.

I was there Sunday and Monday, and way too many people are allowed in who are not actual media, making it difficult for those who are the media to do their job. And the models who greet you as you enter the doors look anorexic. Not healthy whatsoever.

waste of time, Chrysler skipped doing reveals there, Ford is doing more reveals at barret Jackson, all of the new cars theres minimal access to, NAIAS has been going down hill for years the NADA needs to loose control of it
