My trip to Georgia sucked!!!!!

What a let down. Based on the pictures and him telling you it was clean, I too would have driven down there for it. It looks great in pictures!

Anytime I've had a car or atv listed I always post pics of any problems so there are no surprises when a potential buyer looks at a car. It not only wastes that persons time by lying about it, but it is also a waste of time to the seller.

I'll keep my eye out for a clean 86. I've stumbled upon a few in my day.
 
Sorry to hear that Matt. I got the long distance run around when I was buying my GN. I know call that my trip to Niagara Falls for lunch. Less then 5 minutes looking at the car and I was gone. Ended up finding one a month and a half later in Ohio. You'll find yours and you learned along the way. Oh and a story that will last you a life time :)

OH MY GOD, THAT GUY?! I read that thread on Corral, tough break, that dude is definitely shady. You made the right move cutting your losses. I heard on some other threads he sold bad superchargers to people on Corral also.
 
I'm waiting for the "APRIL FOOLS!" joke and it really was a sweet ass car that a little old lady owned and sold it to Matt for 1/2 the price...............

I’m really sorry to here about this Matt…..but also really surprised!

You of all people should know how to handle out of state sales.

Simply have the out of state car owner take the car into the local

Ford dealership & you pay to have it inspected. That way your

trouble & problems are limited to $50 - $100 – much better (& cheaper)

than driving, hotels, etc. and finding out the seller is a liar & scumbag!

I let my emotions of buying my 1st Mustang cloud my judgement. Lesson well learned, no more emotions when it comes to car purchases.

Couldn't tell you, never even drove the car. Hell I never even sat in the car.
 
That really sucks Matt, sorry to hear.

Wish I would have known - I know a couple top notch detailers in the ATL area that could have gone to look at the paint and taken some paint thickness readings while they were at it. Probably could have paid them $50 to do it real quick and would have saved some trouble :-(

I'd like to think things turned out well in the long run though. The real '86 for you is still out there, and you'll find her.
 
Kinda had the same thing happen to me, only I only drove 2 hours. But I found a NBM Camaro on craigslist (like my first LS1 car build that I regret selling every day) and it looked mint in pictures. Called the dude, he said the car had 102k miles but didn't look it, mint interior, ect. I load my trailer up and head up there, get there and start checking it out. First thing I notice is a huge dent in the quarter panel, then I open the door and the drivers seat has TWO big tears in the leather, dash is cracked, and the odo reads 133k miles..WTF? I asked a few more questions regarding accidents and title and he said it had a clean carfax and good title, I almost left with it just because I had searched for months and was sick of coming up empty handed, and he dropped 1,500 off the price for the "miscommunication" but did the right thing and passed on it. I saw another ad on Craigslist a week later for it, and it said Salvage Title...awesome. Glad he told me it had a good title when I was almost ready to leave with it.
 
I left a truck in SC last spring that was not as advertised. I did bring one back from Tenn a few years ago that I should have left there. I did break even one that one, but it took a few years.

but it shows you grew up in the burbs .... a true Detroiter would have busted a cap in the scammers ass! :icon_bigg

I have family in upstate South Carolina and very good friends in Charlotte N.C. if you want something looked at all it would cost your is a couple bucks for (local ) gas to have a car looked at and save you a trip let me know if I can be of any help
 
I really wish I would have slowed my roll on this decision. I was just so fired up that I might have the opportunity to buy a "clean" '86 GT like my old car. I feel like a dumbass :shake:

Don't... We are human and make mistakes... It's a lesson learned that you can chaulk up as a life journey....
 
Fact is, some dickheads think you won't walk because you've got SOOOO much invested in just getting there and hope that emotion will push you into buying. Definitely worth it to walk away.

Another key point was the "what about everything else" concern. Too much potential for headaches. You made the right call.
