My New project

Mocking up the motor

Well i picked up some cheap mounts from murryas, borrowed a canton pan from my buddy. I'm not sure if the motors going to be to far forward but this is as far as i could move it back. The front sump in the pan makes it hard to place the motor.

What do you think on the motor placement? I just have the mounts tac welded in right now until i feel this is a good location.

Yes I'm looking for some info on the motor placement... I think it should be further back. I'm not seeing how to do it besides putting the pan on top of the k-member but then I'm worried about if the motor would be to high and then have a trans issue..
Maybe I'll just bolt the trans on tomorrow and try it that way

Smooth you busy tomorrow

i'll come by and look at it, would be nice if you have a drive shaft and a tranny so we could see where about it should be

I have the trans. The drive shaft will have to be custom made for this thing im thinking. I don't have a trans jack. Just need some help tossing in a couple bolt while i lift it up. Plus someone will be here if he car falls on me
My wife would ignore my screams and think i just want a smoke

we did a 69 stang with a Heidts front end, with a 351W, it was a MF'er because the owner did'nt want to cut the hood! we used a a FMS rear sump pan and i dropped the rack mounts down, that let the motor go back, now be careful not to drop the track to far, we dropped this one down an 1" and used a upr bump steer kit to bring the tie rod down the same and it worked out well, hope this helps?

I have no problem cutting the hood. It's an eliminator hood to so it has a small scoop on it. So I culd just put the pan above the rack at this point and leave everything else as is?

true, the kit was disigned for a 302 stlye motor, if you raise it up and back will you have the trans tunnel clearence? cool ass project keep the pic's rolling.

That's what i think i'm going to try tomorrow bolt the trans to the block then drop it all in move the motor back as far as i can and make sure the motor an trans isnt pitiching to far back. I know the trans tunnels are pretty big to handle that FE with the C6. This one is just getting a 351W with a C4 small bell

a 32V cobra motor with a kenny bell would fit:icon_mrgr

Can't you use a rear sump pan instead of the fox style pan so that you can set it back? It definitely looks way too far forward.

Thanks for keeping the pics coming, I love this car, and have wanted to build something similar for a long time. I used to have a 67 Cougar.

hey what a coincedence i have a nice 32v cobra with a 6 speed :dontknow:
Yea but i got that motor already done. Would cost to much to do it over. I would have to sell my motor, get a cobra motor and then have it built.

It was just the design I really dought using a stock pan would even help. Like BBC said it needs to be a fat bottom pan. I'm either going to place the motor over the rack or the racks coming down lol

I placed it in there without the rack and it looks sharp

dropping the rack is'nt that big of a deal, as long as you don't to far and you move the tie rods down the same amount. is it going to be a drag car or pro touring? just wondering.

Street/strip, FFW stuff and just to cruise around the neighborhood, Nothing more than 5-10 mile trips, some cruises. The car has a 4.56 so no highways. Just a nice old cruiser i can take to the track and lay down some good umbers
