My Motor Damage

I do not have pictures of rod bearings, I am just going off of what Sean @ CARS said he could see. I can see if I can get some pictures of that when the motor comes back from the machinest.
Mike at Fullthrottlespeed.com tuned the car. Sean thinks that the hone might have been incorrect also and we will know more when the machinest gets back with us.

The bores do look like they are starting to go away some. But that could also he caused by the head gaskets being blown, the coolant washes away the film of oil on the bores and the piston skirts start to polish and wear the bores from lack of lubricant.

Caps were certainly moving no doubt there. I'd be interested to tear the oil pump apart. As mentioned earlier Buick oil pumps are notorious for taking themselves out with wear against the cover.

On the other side of things, if the oil pump were putting debris through the engine it would have also effected the rod bearings which you said look good.

The mains don't show a wear condition due to lack of oil, but are traced and scored which shows that their failure was caused by foriegn debris getting into the oil from somewhere. This could be as simple as a dirty assembly, but an out of round main bore housing is much more likely.

Those pushrods eating themselves may have contributed to contaminating the oil, in addition to the blown head gaskets. Any of you engine gurus in here familiar with running an engine with adjustable pushrods? I wasn't aware that it was even done....I thought they were just for figuring out proper length :dontknow:

thats all i would ever use them for...to much room for error ::shudder::

buick guys use them sometimes to compensate for the fact that the factory rockers aren't adjustable, this is why so many buicks have "lifter ticks" and why im putting some T&D shaft mounts on mine

The T&D's are WAY louder than the stock rockers!

Sorry Andy, you will just have to trade me your T & D's for my stockers now. I will even get new plastic retainers for you.

he has so much stuff the rats don't have a place to live

Me or Andy? I think Andy has me beat by a mile. Especially if you are counting 4" fart can mufflers (what do you have like 50 of those Andy?). Of course, you can't touch the complete Grand National T-Top roof I have in the corner of my garage...

From the looks of the picture, the motor seen detonation. By the looks of the caps, they where moving around alot, causing load on the bearings. How did the rod bearings look?

Good eye I also see the detonation marks in the cylinder walls, wondered if I was seeing things or had a dirty screen.

My original machine shop is going to fix the problem. I was hoping they would. Picking up the block and everything. I will let you all know what we find out when they go thru everything.
