My coupe launching

Looks like it has too much pinion angle...do you know what you're running? What are you shifting at? If you're shifting at stock RPM's, I would probably run 4.10's...if you're at 6,500 run 4.30's.

For the stupid people reading this(ME) how can you tell to much pinion angle?
I'm running a 306 forged internals, alum gt40heads and intake, 24lb inj. I shift it at 6,000rpm.

I need to get to a dyno so I know more where the power points are.

Too much lift in the rear (gap between top of tire and fender). A little lift is ok, but that's a bit excessive. I would be interested to see what your car is running...

As far as rear shocks, the Strange adj. rears work well and are pretty cheap.

Hey

Well looks like it's going to go fast. Launched at 5,000RPM pulled a 1.72 60ft and ended with 13.2ET. I thought the car had 3.73 gears but after the bogging after the launch I think it has 3.55 or taller gears. Any thoughts or harsh commints?

Yeah, stop starting it up at midnight...my kids are sleeping!!! Just Kidding Mike...if you are out tonight, I will stop over.

I saw the car at Milan on Wednesday but didn't realize it was a Motown members. Didn't get to see you make a pass, but it looked really nice sitting in the staging lanes. :rockwoot:

I'll be out tonight to see if my pinion angle is better, IN FRONT OF YOUR HOUSE!!!!!! Couple 5k launches should do.

Hey Mike, if I'm not out just come by BEER is cold. :rockwoot:

Hey Mike,
What is your MPH? what cam do you have? What rear suspension do you have?
NIce pic!!!

Let me just list the whole run:
1.72------60ft
5.47------330ft
8.50------1/8
81.68mph--1/8
11.11-------1,000'
93.21-------1,000'
13.32-------1/4
102.3-------1/4

I have a E303 cam. Rear suspension is south side lift bars, 50/50 lakewood shocks, and Moroso springs. Really not much.

Thanks, did you have your coupe out there?

Now you know the car stop by, or jump in the drivers seat and see what you can do with it.

hmmm....I think you have other problems with that 102 mph. The fact that you ran 13.3 at that MPH shows your suspension and tires are fine. I would expect 107-109 with that set up.

The difference between your 1/8 to 1/4 is about right at 20 mph. I think your a little low on power.

BTW I would shift a e303 with those heads at 5-5300...

Agree with a revised shift point, but still would check the suspension...more to be had there.

After reading this I hunted for a time slip from when I had the car at the track but with street tires here are the times from that day. This was on a sat. late april early may.

April -May Pass
2.26------60ft
5.74------330ft
8.69------1/8
84.12mph--1/8
11.21-------1,000'
98.22-------1,000'
13.34-------1/4
106.07-------1/4

Wed TT
1.72------60ft
5.47------330ft
8.50------1/8
81.68mph--1/8
11.11-------1,000'
93.21-------1,000'
13.32-------1/4
102.3-------1/4

I guess I do have something going on.
I was just thinking cause it bogged that was causing low times.
Right after the April MMay pass I got an Ideal problem that I corrected with a new IAC and removes the vacuum solinoid. Maybe this is still wrong. Anyone have a scanner
