Lets just say this car has been through the ringer. I bought it the summer i graduated from high school for 700 bucks in this condition.
With the help of my uncle and cousin it started slowly. I had intentions of getting the car together just to sell. I figured with the small amount of money i had into it, i could flip it, make a decent profit and buy myself something really clean.
The further and further the project went the more i began to have a soft spot for it. Not to mention working on the car with family made it have some sentimental value. But still with the intention of selling i threw a lovely maaco paint job on it. Which to my surprise did not turn out that bad.
After i drove the car a few times i realized i couldnt sell it. I loved it, it ran good and didnt cost much. The next summer (2003) the car received 3.73 gears, shifter, weight reduction and a shortbelt. The best pass i ever managed in the car with a tranny on its last leg was a 14.00@100 mph with a less than stellar 2.2 60. The next yr (2004) i outfitted the car with a Tremec trans, Lakewood struts, shocks, Megabite Jr lower control arms, ET streets, Spec clutch and flywheel, shorty headers, DR gas O/R X and a mac catback. The suspension was set up all wrong and i could never leave any harder at the track than i could on the street. Best pass with the fubard suspension was a 13.60@99 and change with a 1.9 60. I then sold my stock axles, 3.73s and stock carrier to swap in my Moser 31 splines, Eaton carrier and 4.10s. I then switched the suspension setting on the control arms around. This netted a [email protected] with a 1.75 60' leaving at 5800 rpm. The following yr (2005) i put my nitrous kit on, bogart D-10s on the front, c+L mass air meter and tried to take some more weight off of the car. I got the car all ready to go to the corrals big event in the fall (Smackdown) in hopes of breaking into the 12s and reaching my goal. Well after trailering the car all the way there we were rained out. Turned around and headed to milan with DRKFKR, THE LEGEND, Vector and a bunch of other guys. This is where i turned my best pass ever with the stock motor. I lined up with the DRKFKR right off the trailer the car went. (car 5)
I was thrilled to say the least to see that he wasnt catchin me up top as i knew that car would out trap me. I sprayed it two passes but with the 4.10s short tires and no real RPM band i was out of motor about 900 ft out. 12.33@109 with a spinnin 1.79 60. Havent had the car back to the track with the Team Z stuff and lighter chassis. The car felt pretty good and i have no reason to doubt it had at the very minimum a 12.9999999 in it. I guess well never know, seeings as i cant keep from breaking transmissions. I wanted to get it up there to make a few passes but broke my tko roll racing the triggers STI.
I had made a thread previously but cant seem to find it. So here is what was in it.
I have made alot of progress as of late.
Right after i got the stock motor out.
Engine bay was awful looking so i took some time and put in some work
This is what i have now.
